5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to their first album
The Stringdusters know how to bridge the gap between classic bluegrass and contemporary audiences. They innovate without selling out; they stay true to the past without seeming musty and dated. Their sound is infectious and fun, yet they cover serious subjects with solemnity and dignity. This is one album you won't tire of soon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Far Out
The musicianship on this album is phenomenal, but it wears me out to listen to it. There are so many twists and turns I quickly tire from listening to it. It's almost as if they set out to make it too complicated to enjoy. I like an unexpected turn or two, but this one is just too much for me. They did a great job no doubt, but I find it hard to relate to what's going on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Bluegrass, July 3, 2008
This review is from: The Infamous Stringdusters (Audio CD)
In their second album, the Infamous Stringdusters continue to introduce the bluegrass branch of the the country music genre to new people. Their soulful rythms, combined with impeccable harmonies and brilliant folksy story-telling make this band a treat to listen to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still bustin', December 3, 2008
This review is from: The Infamous Stringdusters (Audio CD)
All the tracks are good bluegrass (yes this mean a hint of old time country). I find this a bit more variant than their debut, but the high marks, including the last 4 tracks represent how good not only progressive bluegrass music can be, but music in general. This is a young band with a high level of talent that takes you to new places when they are riding high. A couple tracks I find just good, which prevents a 5-star review, but doesn't prevent this CD from being played over and over again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Is it the Producer or the Band?, January 1, 2009

There is no doubt that these guys are phenomenal musicians. But this CD got a little far out for me (and I like a lot of contemporary bluegrass!) It probably deserves another star, but after "Fork in the Road," which I absolutely loved, this was a let-down. I liked a few of the songs, but I felt that they didn't use their voices and instruments as well as they have proved they can.

A thought: the last CD was produced by Tim Stafford from Blue Highway. This one was produced by Tim O'Brien. Nothing against Tim O'Brien, who is a great player and singer, but that could be a big part of the difference. O'Brien goes for the weirder stuff quite often, and it often seems to me that he is wasting his high-quality voice on low-quality singing.
Just an opinion.

I have over 2000 CD's and this is a unique touch to music and I mean that in a good way. Listen to the samples.
I discovered them on a sample CD I get in one of the mags I read.
Enjoy

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as good as Fork In The Road, July 31, 2008

I was so pleased with their album "Fork In The Road" that I have listened to countless times, I was planning on buying this album as soon as it came out sound unheard.

I did listen to a sample or two on the band's myspace page as well.

I like the album and do listen to it, but it was a bit of a let down, in my opinion, from Fork In The Road. I do not regret buying the album, though.

My favorite song from this album is definitely "Won't be coming back".

A friend keep asking if I had heard this group, so I decided to give it a try. Was very disappointed, but she still thinks they are great. Just a difference in what we like.
