By Avid Reader "Sarah" (South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Infant and Child Care Skills (Education) (Paperback)
I think this book is brilliant. I and every other girl received it during out AuPair Induction, this was 5 years ago. I am a wife and my husband and I are trying to conceive. If you want one single compact, IMPACT book on childcare, this is the one to buy. It covers from the basic layette, thru in-depth tracking of meals and health, and toilet training to nursery equipment checklists and home safety.
I presume this book was written with the eye on childcare institutions like day care centers, but I think it is perfect for first time, clueless parents as well as the "trained professional". You won't go wrong with this well rounded book. Contents: Foreword Preface Chapter 1 - The Relationship of Physical Care to Development Chapter 2 - Record Keeping Chapter 3 - Nursery Hygiene, Safety and Comfort Chapter 4 - Diapering and Skin Care Chapter 5 - Newborn Care - Handling, Bathing, Personal Hygiene Chapter 6 - Bathing, Personal Hygiene and Clothing for the Child Chapter 7 - Infant Feeding Chapter 8 - Feeding Toddlers and Preschoolers Chapter 9 - Rest and Sleep Chapter 10 - Toilet Training Chapter 11 - Caring for the Mildly Ill Child at Home Chapter 12 - Travel with Infants and Young Children Chapter 13 - Special Considerations in Group Care Appendices - 1. Nursery Equipment Checklist - 2. Home Safety Checklist - 3. Sources of Information Related to Children's Health - 4. Demonstration Checklist - 5. Annotated Bibliography Glossary Index |
