5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for parents and massage therapists alike!
Mary Ady's book is a great resource for new parents looking to create a deeper bond with their new child, soothe their child's ailments and promote a wonderful state of well being from the beginning of their lives. This book is informative and gives step by step pictures for hands on practice. As a massage therapist who has had many pregnant clients over the years, I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Uggh!
The editor of this book should be taken out and well, um, taken care of. As a physician I bought this book since it was suppose to be a quality publication with references and scientific backing. Unfortunately, I found that the references were sparse and inadequate. The author interspersed her claims with references with other unrelated concepts not backed by...

Mary Ady's book is a great resource for new parents looking to create a deeper bond with their new child, soothe their child's ailments and promote a wonderful state of well being from the beginning of their lives. This book is informative and gives step by step pictures for hands on practice. As a massage therapist who has had many pregnant clients over the years, I can say this is a book I always recommend as the due date nears. The book has especially been helpful for friends of mine whose child was suffering from colic. I think this makes a great baby shower gift for the health conscious parent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Colic massage technique particularly helpful, May 25, 2010
As part of my job, I help parent learn how to cope with colic and acid reflux. I was particularly interested in the abdominal massage to relieve gas and colic. The technique that Mary Ady recommends directly contradicted something I was taught by another massage therapist. Ms Ady says it is important to use a clockwise motion on the abdomen but years ago I was told that the proper motion is counter-clockwise. I got out an anatomy book and discovered that Ms. Ady is correct. If you are trying to encourage gas bubbles and food to move through the digestive system, you certainly don't want to use the wrong motion!

When your baby has digestive pain, massage can really be beneficial. It can also help your baby to calm down and relax so that her digestive system can work better. Ms Ady gives wonderful instructions. The step-by-step photos are very helpful. I'm also looking forward to trying the foot massage that she recommends for digestive issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for parents + massage therapists, too!, June 25, 2009
An Infant Massage Guidebook: For Well, Premature, and Special Needs Babies This is a great resource for parents and massage therapists, too. It's written in a relaxed, friendly style and provides easy-to-follow instructions...complete with clear photos for each step. This book goes beyond other infant massage books with its tips for a wide variety of special needs. I highly recommend it! In fact, I've adopted it as the textbook for a continuing education (CE) course for massage therapists. [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Repeat positive interaction is positive for mother and child., June 22, 2009
Repeat positive interactions between parent and child, such as those provided by infant massage, can result in positive physiological changes important for mothers including those suffering from post-partum depression or anxiety.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book!, June 21, 2009
I am an educator, in the public school system, and would highly recommend this book. You can find detailed instructions in the book and easy to follow photographs. I can tell that the author spent a great deal of time researching the topic of "infant massage." The research is current research and is certainly not outdated. If you have a precious infant, I think that you will not regret purchasing this book! The information is relevant and useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for baby showers!, December 23, 2008

Going to a baby shower? This is a fantastic gift for new moms. I bought this for a friend and it was well received and one of the more popular gifts :) that people were talking about. Clothes are cute and easy to buy but the information in the book will be appreciated by babies and moms for years to come & they won't grow out of in 3 months!

5.0 out of 5 stars erin cianciolo, May 26, 2010
it is a great gift to give to a parent at a baby shower, with the rate of 12.8% of babies born premature in the US- more than half a million each year, increasing 36% since the early 1980's it covers how to adapt the routine to a baby born preterm... with the astonishing results of neural development and body growth and increasing weight gain which is a critical factor for a preterm babies survival. So 1 in 10 women you buy this for as a baby shower gift, will already have the instructions in their hand should they be that 12.8%

I'm an early childhood teacher and found this book to be very informative and well-written. Before reading this book, I was not familiar with the concept of infant massage. I would highly recommend this instructional tool to anyone with children, or anyone expecting to have children.

The book contains a wealth of information relating to child care and the reader will return to this book again and again as (s)he practices and refines the method.
