About the Author

Martha J. Grimes, R.N., C.I.C, has been a certified Infection Control Practitioner for over 35 years, and is considered a leader in the field of development, implementation and management of all aspects of Health Care Infection Control and Health Care Worker Employee Health Services. Ms. Grimes taught principles of Infection Control epidemiology formally as well as informally at the local, regional and national level, and has mentored many Infection Control Practitioners who now direct successful programs in many states. Ms. Grimes has been a presenting speaker at seminars and conferences at the local, regional and national level for health care professionals. In addition to being a leader in Quality/Performance Improvement projects she has led, facilitated, and presented many root cause analysis. Her retirement from hospital employment in 2001 has allowed Ms. Grimes to pursue a limited consulting practice, serving not only acute care facilities, but office based practices, free standing surgical, clinical, support services and other organized allied health care groups as well. Since 1992, Ms. Grimes has been part of the Gershon Research Team, originally based at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and currently based at Columbia University?s Mailman School of Public Health.
