5.0 out of 5 stars WHERE was this book 3 years ago?!!!!!!
INFERTILITY SUCKS is right! My dh & I wasted so much time and money trying to have our first child. My gyno said she was an inferitlity specialist - HA! Misinformation at every turn. Run around from insurance company, which we had to argue with to even get meds covered. Marriage nearly went in the tank before we took a break, got some counseling and then did some...

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be called the IVF Survival Handbook
While the writing is accessible and conversational, I found this book to be heavily biased towards IVF (at one point stating "In vitro fertilization is truly amazing and miraculous."). Falker provides a wealth of information for women considering IVF, but in her descriptions of alternative treatments, she inevitably makes a statement along the lines of "but IVF is...

INFERTILITY SUCKS is right! My dh & I wasted so much time and money trying to have our first child. My gyno said she was an inferitlity specialist - HA! Misinformation at every turn. Run around from insurance company, which we had to argue with to even get meds covered. Marriage nearly went in the tank before we took a break, got some counseling and then did some research - we would've saved tons of $$ and 2+ years if we had this book! I found the section for men particularly well written. A friend told me to get this book since we are trying for #2. A big THANK YOU TO the Author! READ THIS BOOK FIRST IF NEED HELP TO GET PREGNANT!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!, April 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
As someone who has walked the road of infertility, I can say that this book ranks number one in my opinion. Infertility is a hard path and this book validates the fear, uncertainty, and sorrow of infertility. Most importantly though the book offers a great resource for the different options and struggles that may meet the infertility patient on the road to parenthood. Ms. Swire-Falker tells it like no one before her. She is there with you each step of the way and offers advice and guidance and most importantly understanding. Only a great author can make the infertility patient smile and laugh at some of the worst that infertility has to offer. Hats off to Ms. Swire-Falker for offering such a book to the legions of infertility patients nationwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone going thru the infertility process., July 27, 2004
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
This book is real. Blunt. To the point. It is all the information that you need and given to you in real world terms. The author doesn't hold anything back and that is what a person on the infertility rollercoaster needs. If you buy this book, you won't need to buy any others on this subject. My only disappointment is that this book wasn't available years ago when I started my infertility ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Infertility Book Out There!!, July 20, 2004
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
I have read several infertility books, and by far this one has been the best. I purchased the book a few months ago and absolutely love it. In fact, it was through her book, that I somewhat outed myself (after 8 years) to everyone that I was infertile. Putting the book on the homepage of my website somehow made it very clear to everyone what I was going through. After reading her story (which she openly shares in the first chapter of the book) I realized there WERE other options for me out there.

My husband and I are currently going through the adoption process, and I honestly believe that we would not have taken the step toward it had it not been for this book.

For writing a book that is easy to read yet so full of information. In the two years of dealing with infertility, I have never read a book that was written as if the author was a good friend and talking to me. But, yet, Swire-Falker accomplishes that with this book. There is so much information in this book and presented in a comfortable and easily digested manner. Swire-Falker covers so much in this book: Finding a good RE or Fertility Clinic, Testing, Diagnosis, Treatment Options, Affording Infertility, Understanding Your Cycle, Beginning IF Treatments and more. This book has it all! Ms. Swire-Falker, THANK YOU for writing this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I would not have survived infertility without this book, January 17, 2006
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars! The day it arrived, I had been trying to conceive for nearly 3 years and was knee deep in treatments and exploring adoption options. I had so many books on the medical side of things, but nothing that dealt with the emotions. I opened my package and just flipped to any old page. I read a few lines and knew I had found the book I had been searching for.

The author's direct approach was indispensable to me. She is honest and speaks from the heart. She combined the emotional and medical side of treatments in a way that no other book had. Although some of my emotions and experiences were different than hers, I still felt a sense of understanding.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone going through infertility treatments, at any stage. In a world where infertility is sometimes looked at as "desperate women taking desperate measures" this book gives you hope and guidance. It reminds you that you are not alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars WISH I HAD READ SOONER!, April 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
I just received this book and wish I had read it sooner. I've been living through infertility for over six years and if I had read this book earlier I may have saved myself so much frustration and heartache! This book tells it like it is and gives me so much information I feel that I can confront my doctors and my treatment choices with authority! I big thank you to the author for sharing her intimate experience and making me feel that I'm not alone in this world. Every infertility patient (or even those women (or men) who have yet to be diagnosed but fear the worse) should read this book! It doesn't matter if you are headed into your first consult or on your fourth IVF - this book is a Godsend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I find this book sooner!?, April 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
I cannot tell you how long I have been struggling with infertility and I must have read every book on the subject. Finally someone GETS IT! This book taught me everything I could have ever wanted to know from finding ways to afford my treatment to dealing with my husband. I am pregnant now, and wish I had read this book earlier. I think I would have gotten pregnant faster if I had it before and had understood better what I was facing and how some of my choices (like the clinic I went to) were maybe slowing me down. This is a great book for anyone who is infertile!

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY -- a book for and about us as patients!!!!, April 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
There are so many materials out on the market that talk about the medical interventions that are available for those that suffer with infertility. But there is no book out there that talks about it from a patient's perspective. The author has "been there and done that" and uses this book to talk to fellow patients. Her style is very direct and upfront, which is a breath of fresh air compared to many of the other books out there. She also helps you sort out the myriads of decisions that want-to-be-parents have to face as they walk through the infertility maze. This is a "must read" for anyone suffering infertility - it's so comforting to know that you are not alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up! Great book!, April 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Infertility Survival Handbook (Paperback)
I am someone who dealt with infertility for 13 years. When I first started trying to get pregnant, there weren't many books on infertility. Sure, there were tons of pregnancy books but not many on help to become pregnant. I certainly wish this book existed when I was trying to become pregnant. The Infertility Suvivor Handbook is very well written with lots of added humor that I enjoyed very much. Ms. Swire Falker shares her personal journey of infertility. I laughed and cried while reading this book. I was much more educated with this book, written by a woman who has gone through years of infertility, than books written by doctors. Infertility has and always will be a big part of my life. I am proud to say I am now the mother of 3 year old twins. Even though I am a mother, the pain of infertility is always with me. That is the reason I read Ms. Swire Falker's book. I learned having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder isn't uncommon after going through infertility. I was just recently diagnosed with PTSD. Reading this book made me feel much better knowing that I am not alone. I will recommend this book to anyone who is trying to get pregnant or who is even thinking of getting pregnant. This is a must read book!!
