4.0 out of 5 stars You like Panic!, then you'll like We Are The Fury
I've just finished typing up a review of this EP for my website (www.pep-rock.com) and I love this EP. It can't help but put a smile on your face. We Are The Fury have made a fantastic start with Infinite Jest and it will leave many people on the edge of their seat for the bands first full-length album. If this EP would have come out in about 6 months time, they may have...

In the era of dance-pop, I've gotten rather bored of the contrived, typical Killers/Bravery/Hot Hot Heat/[...] craze, so undoubtedly listening to another band doing the same synth powered dance pop rock jams was a bad move. "Infinite Jest" is the debut EP from a band who are no doubt bound to see big things in the next year or so. So how is it, honestly?

We Are The Fury have made a fantastic start with Infinite Jest and it will leave many people on the edge of their seat for the bands first full-length album. If this EP would have come out in about 6 months time, they may have been labelled as a trend follower because believe me in 6 months time everyone will want to sound like this. The Dance Punk revolution has started, so make sure you have your dancing shoes at the ready.

The production's there, and the band's obvious sense of what they want to do is solid. I'll give them that--they want to be Hot Hot Heat, and they do it well.

Needless to say, I was instantly turned off by the contrived, obvious similarity to every other dance/pop act out there (see Hot Hot Heat, ImaRobot, the Killers, Bravery, and blah blah blah), and while at moments I almost found myself tapping my toe, I can't say I can enjoy this at all. "Anesthetic Parade" has its moments, with its blazing, almost punk guitars and expected but still classy synth backing but the squealing from the band's singer kills the verse. The chorus has a sense of nice melody at catchiness to it, but again the similarity to just about everything I have heard is just too strong to ignore.

I must be the only one who is completely sick of this, because bands like this keep on sprouting up, but I figure, hey, what's a few words of honesty about how dispecable I think this band is going to do? They're going to be huge anyways. So if you're into the whole Hot Hot [...]craze, go for it and pick it up, you won't be disappointed--it's got everything you want in that case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Excellent!, March 22, 2006

Not sure where the other reviewer is coming from as my CD is almost always playing - luv it! Great beat, backgrounds... The only way you'd be sorry is because you're listening to it often and not doing other stuff.

I saw We Are the Fury open for the New York Dolls at the House of Blues, and they just blew my mind! I heard some of their stuff on their MySpace on the computer, but the computer doesn't give you the powerful and strong sound that they have live. I got Venus, their first full album with 13 songs on it (including Camera Tricks and So Physical, which were two of the songs they played) for $10 after the show which I bought from Brady Leffler, the keyboardist for the band (I later went to go get the album signed by all the boys, which I got, except for Brady's because he wasn't the first keyboardist, so why sign something you didn't do?). I listened to it in the car on the way home, and I just LOVED it! So of course, I had to get Infinite Jest, which, even though it only had four new songs, still had the same impact as Venus did! It's just amazing! You'd be an idiot if you didn't like them! The only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that they always have a girl on the cover instead of themselves, but that's just a minor little thing, and who really cares? Anyways, if you got Venus or Infinite Jest, and you really enjoyed it, then keep a look out for their upcoming album! I hope this review was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Up And Coming!, September 23, 2006

This band is amazing! I have listened to this EP a thousand times, and it has yet to get old. They have a huge future, and yet are not like every other dance rock band as everyone keeps saying. Hot Hot Heat is great. but they don't have near the energy or the attitude this band does.

Keep your eyes on these guys! They will be rocking arenas near you soon! And if you don't see them, you are missing a lot! And try to meet them! They are so much fun to hang out with!!!

Buy it!!!

These guys played a great set in Austin and I also saw them play in San Antonio. I bought their EP right after and it's been in my car for weeks. Buy it-you'll like it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Just awful!, February 9, 2006
This review is from: Infinite Jest (Audio CD)
The Good

I only had to sit through five songs. I really dug the model on the cover too.

The Bad

I tried and tried to find something good about this release, but every time I thought I had something, I was reminded at how piercing, whiney, annoying, and out-of-tune the vocals were. The band has some decent beats and chord changes similar to 70s David Bowie and more recently Jet. However, Jeremy Lublin's vocals are so accentuated and over-emphasized to mimic the style of late 70s glam and post punk, that they are jarring to the ear and impossible to enjoy. Despite his American roots, Lublin does a great job of sounding like every British punk band frontman that didn't quite have it. Perhaps if he was backed up by hard charging punk rock distortion and frantic chord changes, things would be different.

The Verdict

Just awful!
