Ok, If You Like Experimental Vai,
By Vince Wylde "vincewylde" (Lancaster, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology (Audio CD)
I think Steve wants us all to take him seriously as an experimental guitarist. This CD is GREAT if you want to hear the full gammet of his ability. However, if you are looking for flat out crank the volume axe shredding chaos, this isn't the CD.
There is a ton of stuff on this CD that is very interesting to say the least. However if you are familiar with tracks from "Alien Love Secrets" or "Flexable", rest assured many of the tracks on this CD are not anywhere near either of those two discs... I gave it three stars NOT because it's a bad CD, but more because I was a bit dissapointed. http://www.vincewylde.com

A Great Starter CD for Vai Fans,
By
This review is from: Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology (Audio CD)
I'm a big Steve Vai fan, and this CD is a good place for fans who want to get a small taste of what Steve is like. It doesn't offer up the cream of his works, for that you have to span his whole catalog. But still this is a great place to start
I recommend this as a start then branch of to his full albums and even the live stuff, like the DVD Live at the Astoria London and even the G3 DVD's.

Good Explorer CD,

If you heard of the great Steve Vai, and heard stuff like "He's awesome but his music sucks!" This cd is for you. Not only does it show a big variety of the way he plays, but it has his best songs. So that away you can enjoy the songs without having some of those songs that are really weird. To be honest these two cds have some of my favorite songs ever written. If you like solo guitar music or instrumental music, I would recommend this cd to you. If not I would tell you to download a few songs from this cd online, and if you like it then go buy it.

If you like Vai, of course you know a lot of the songs. The live stuff is also very cool. It is a great value since it has so much content.

Awesome!!,

Vai is awesome in his own way ... if you want classical guitaring you probably wont find this as good as Joe Satriani or Petrucci, buy if you like new age guitaring, this is the one for you!
Vai is not as much about composition as about tone, control and passion ... so if you're searching for any of the above, this is the choice!

The best Anthology ever produced,
By
This review is from: Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology (Audio CD)
THe perfectionism of Steve Vai goes way beyond music studies. You can find every little genre Steve has ever ventured to. From the beautiful ballads, trough sparkling bluesy rhytms to hardcore shredding style, this compilation has everything and if you ever wondered how to introduce someone to the immersive size of Steve Vai's music, this is just the pefrect way as the newcomer would be able to hear Steve's soul itself.Flawless.

Nothing but genius,

The man is a genius - simple as that. You won't find a better guitar player than Steve Vai. This is the ultimate collection of the world's ultimate guitarist. Ok, so you've probably got all the songs anyway, but it's a great compilation and perfect for Vai first-timers!If Bad Horsie doesn't make you want to grab your guitar and run aorund like a plonker, then nothing will. Buy this now...then buy another one just in case you lose it.

Steve Vai has crept up to my upper echelon of guitarists.,

In buying this album, I knew what I was in for, but also it gave me a good retrospective overview of the past present and future of progressive metal guitar. I would say that the Zappa and prog element is there enough with the shred/metal element to call much of Vai's solo material Prog Metal. He has a mastery of tone, melody (ok maybe not as much as Becker or Roth) and instrumentation that is probably on par with noone since Hendrix, since they both are in outer space as far as their unique visions. As Yngwie took Roth and Blackmore and surpassed them tenfold (well maybe not Roth), Vai has taken Van Halen in paticular (the liquid, spacey, tapping sound as well as other things) and taken it to another universe all together. A double album worthy of repeat listening and influence, Anthology sums up a killer career. The only thing missing is some of the David Lee Roth stuff.

Great Music - Poor Quality,
By
This review is from: Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology (Audio CD)
Love the music but there is some very irritating high pitched "harmonics" or something on "For the Love of God".
None of the other reviewers mentioned this, do I have a lemon CD??? This is the first Steve Vai music I've ever bought and I think it's awesome. I'm way over 14 years old too!!!

Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology,
By Music man "Rock guitar freak" (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology (Audio CD)
Steve Vai is the greatest rock guitarist that ever walked this planet. Others may be faster and harder, but no one has the heart, the technique, the brains to do what he does with a guitar. His writing is way beyond any other and his reach is in every genre from rock to jazz to world music. No one comes close and I've listened to them all!
