5.0 out of 5 stars This album will stop you in your tracks!
I was 14 years old when this album was released. I went over to a friends house after school and through the door of his older brother's room was the sound of this voice. The voice was, Steve Perry's.
I was already building a pretty diverse record collection. I told my friend to hang on for a second and literally stopped in my tracks and knocked on his brother's...

2.0 out of 5 stars No Bonus Tracks
I give it two stars because I agree with all of the reviews that state it as a repackaged and not a re-remastered release. I suspect it's because this INFINITY and EVOLUTION have no bonus material added to them, so they got lazy and just repackaged them. 5.0 out of 5 stars This album will stop you in your tracks!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Infinity (Dig) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
I was 14 years old when this album was released. I went over to a friends house after school and through the door of his older brother's room was the sound of this voice. The voice was, Steve Perry's.
I was already building a pretty diverse record collection. I told my friend to hang on for a second and literally stopped in my tracks and knocked on his brother's door. He opened the door and said, "Hey, what's up?" I asked who it was that he was listening to. He said, "Journey." and showed me the cover. That friday night, I went to a local department store with my family and passed by the record section. There it was, "Infinity". With the best looking artwork on the rack. I pulled out my lone $10 dollar bill and bought the record. It was on sale for $5.98!. This purchase began a journey of my own. They were my favorite band from 1978 to 1983's "Frontiers". I bought their records. Went to their concerts on every tour and watched them develop and implode. I didn't know about terms like "corporate rock", or the pending homogenization of rock radio that was beginning to happen. I just knew that i liked their sound. Roy Thomas Baker produced the album's "Infinity" and "Evolution". His production style was a major force to why and how they became so hugely successful. Infinity is an album for the ages and for all ages. Personally, The best Steve Perry Era album, and one which I am listening to right now at the age of 44, as I write this.
It is one of the best rock album's made in the 70's. Waaaay beyond it's time. It had class and soul and groove. The band played great and I feel that if you like good melodic, well sung rock music this is an absolutely stellar recording. If you are into the "New wave" or "punk" generation from the same era. You won't dig this at all. It's not angst. It's beautifully played and arranged commercial rock music.
A masterpiece.
NOTE:I hadn't heard Journey before this record (or so I thought). Actually, my older brother had "Look Into The Future" and "Next" in his collection. The pre-Steve Perry Journey is a fantastic lineup and great, great music. It's this Journey without Steve Perry. But the great voices of Gregg Rolie (Santana's co-founder and singer of Black Magic Woman) and Neal Schon (a Guitar Prodigy and fine singer in his own right) . The Pre-Steve Journey holds it's own and deserves just as much attention from the record label and curious musician based fan.
Remasters with bonus tracks, etc.

Anyway, go and listen. Really listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can you say - probably "the" Journey Album to have, January 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Infinity (Dig) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
Actually I'm sure there are people that would recommend one of the best of collections but to me this was always "the sound" of Journey with the high voice of Steve and Neil's crunchy guitar and Greg's keyboards, not to mention the rhythm section keeping the whole thing anchored.

There are some great songs (lights, Wheel in the Sky, Feeling That way/Any Time) and whenever I listen to this album I'm always transported by to a better time (or forward to my current relationships :D )

Anyway - you might be like a "best of" album better than this but Infinity is probably the best journey album from composition, songs, performance, etc. :D

I give it two stars because I agree with all of the reviews that state it as a repackaged and not a re-remastered release. I suspect it's because this INFINITY and EVOLUTION have no bonus material added to them, so they got lazy and just repackaged them. All of the other Journey cd's that have the bonus material sound better than the 1996 versions, and along with the remastered Steve Perry solo cd's they are worth buying. If you have the 1996 versions of the above two cd's INFINITY and EVOLUTION don't repurchase these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, but this Legacy release has previous 1996 remastering, August 14, 2010
This review is from: Infinity (Dig) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
This is the best early Journey album before Escape. Great CD, great songs, underrated guitar work.

However, this is NOT new remastering as the current item description may lead people to believe. Here's the scoop on the Journey CD's I like and own:

Infinity (not remastered for 2006 Legacy reissues, old 1996 remastering)
Evolution (not remastered for 2006 Legacy reissues, old 1996 remastering)
Departure (remastered for 2006 Legacy reissues)
Escape (not remastered for 2006 Legacy reissues, old 1996 remastering)
Frontiers (remastered for 2006 Legacy reissues)

They should have all been re-remastered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Perry albums, May 6, 2009

This album is a very good example of the genre - polished stadium rock - that was to burn itself out a few years later. I like this more than the later mega-sellers because it was before the style became near self-parody. Is it just me or could this do with a remix? Some of the vocals leap out at you - try Wheel In the Sky at the beginning. Interesting that Aynsley Dunbar jumped ship after this album - good timing. Perry wasn't exactly prog rock. Incidentally, I like plenty of Journey's supposed musical opposites too, I'm a fan of practically any style when it's done well, and this one pretty much nails it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An All-Time Favorite..., May 3, 2008

The first time I heard Journey's Infinity, I knew it would be one of my favorites. Now, 30 years later, it is still one of my favorites. I was glad to find it available in CD form. There's just something I can't define about the music on this CD that lifts my spirit every time I listen to it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reissue, not rematered, August 30, 2006

Buyer beware. These new Journey releases are reissues of their 1996 remastered releases. They are NOT remastered in 2006. Rhino should be ashamed of itself for this (it's been 10 years - I would have gladly paid for a remastered version, but not for new packaging).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album!, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Infinity (MP3 Download)
I was late to the game on listening to Journey. My first album was Escape, bought by a friend of mind in high school. This began my love of rock music. I love other types of music, but bands like Journey always took me to another level. I played that album every chance I got. Shortly later I would discover that they had earlier work. Songs I had heard before but never knew it was them. This album had all those songs. This just proves it is never to late to fall in love again. Great music lives forever!
