The clock is very attractive but the hands were difficult to see.

The clock is nice to look at but cheaply made - plastic coated with a metallic-ish paint.

This is the flimsiest, cheapest piece of plastic clock I've ever seen.

This is a great "project" clock for creative people. Yes, this clock is obviously plastic (it's only $20). Yes, it's monochromatic, so the hands were hard to see. I ordered it for my sister who likes SteamPunk decor, and since we are both a bit artsy we got a few colors of metallic paint (copper, brass, silver) and repainted the whole thing. It looks amazingly cool now! The paint job took away the plastic look. And by painting the gears a dark copper color and the hands silver, it's very easy to see what time it is. This clock is a cool style; it just needs a new coat of paint.

I BOUGHT this TO BE PART OF A DECORATIVE WAll arrangement. I looks nice in the picture but in person it looks really cheap and plasticy. In addition it keeps poor time loosing about 1hour a day.

UPDATE It got knocked off the wall and broke the 5 and 6 off. I'm not sure that means anything, but I'm glad I wasn't in love with it.

Not sure what "featuring gear movements" means, because these gears do not move. The clock is plastic and cheap and tacky and awful! Worst purchase on Amazon ever. Not worth $1, let alone $25. I waited 3 months for this to come in on back order and was really disappointed once I opened the box.

The clock is nice to look at but cheaply made - plastic coated with a metallic-ish paint. Good to put on the wall as long as you don't get too close!

Given - the clock is super cheap. However, it definitely is PLASTIC and it look PLASTIC. If your look is 'kiche' by all means get this clock but if you're going for a nicer look spend the money for an actual metal piece.

I bought this knowing that I would want to do a little modification (the picture is very accurate). Brushed on flat finish black acrylic paint and rubbed off the high points (did this about 1/4 of the circle at a time) and painted the hands gloss black. This took maybe 15 minutes total, it looks great, does not look cheap and tacky (it did have a plastic look before, but come on - it's a twenty five dollar clock. It looked exactly like the picture). It keeps very accurate time, and it's a really nice, big piece - 18 inches is much larger when it's on a wall in a small space than it seems like it would be. It has a very steam punk look now for sure, and I've gotten lots of comments on how cool and interesting it is. Since I was expecting it to be the basis of a very small project and intended to mod it from the start, I think it merits five stars.

I see other reviews do mention two very accurate problems with this large wall clock. Firstly it is cheap and it doesn't stand up at all to close scrutiny. It looks and feels like it's made of the lightest most air-ridden resin available and the 'gold' is clearly airbrushed paint swiftly done. Secondly, the hands of the clock, being the same color as the faux gold paint of the cogs, do blend with the clock's inner design quite a bit making telling the time a more difficult job than it should be.

Why the four star review then? Well firstly it's a cheap looking clock because... well it IS cheap! It was what I expected for the price. Plus, once on the wall any indication of low cost disappears and it actually looks great from a couple of feet away. The blended clock hands could be solved with a tiny tin of paint or even a permanent marker. It might be a fun art project to redo the entire clock to your color scheme and liking too.

So as long as you understand what you'll get for the price-point I do actually recommend this clock. It's huge and different and the design belies its low price. Go in with your expectations suitably low and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Right out of the package, it looks OK. With about 20 minutes of painting and detailing, it looks FANTASTIC. Go to your craft store, pick out a few colors (I used a metallic silver, copper, black, and rust) and add depth and color to make this really pop out of the wall.
To anybody with even basic skills, this is really an attractive clock.
