I shopped for a clock mainly because my old clock was too loud. Not have a second hand definitely helps with the noise in this clock; let's be honest: you have other tools to use as timers. However, it's definitely not unusually quiet, since the quartz mechanism appears to be run of the mill. However, one thing I did is that the clock mechanism happens to be deeply recessed because the clock is notably deep, so I stuffed tissue papers in that space to filter the sound more. This seems to further improve the sound. I can still hear it, but it is definitely not casually noticeable, and it only ticks every second.
One installation hassle was that the hook needs to extend far into the clock; almost halfway in. It's probably designed to be sturdier this way but you do need a long nail or a hook for this clock. Also, there are two plastic knobs that extend past the clock so the clock does not sit flush against the wall; rather those plastic knobs make contact with the wall. This is probably done to avoid damage to the paint (I already managed to chip some of the paint off while just trying to hang the clock rubbing against the wall).
I am extremely pleased with the aesthetics and usability of this clock. Keeps good time. One day they'll make good digital clocks, but for now this will do.
Update: clock still works great.Read more ›
We love it.
It's well made, runs off a single AA battery, and has a nice metal frame.
It looks great on our wall, and keeps accurate time too.
It's also very quiet (unlike many battery opperated clocks) so there is no annoying CLICK, CLICK,CLICK!!!
If you like the 50's look, you will love this clock.
I think I will also get a red one for the rec. room.
Oh, and shipping was very fast, thank you.

This clock is silent and the second hand moves in a constant fluid motion. It takes one AA battery, which it does not come with. When you install the battery put it in + side first and push down on the - side. Took me a sec to figure it out since I usually push the - against the spring first before popping it in. The acrylic face is bulbed and looks great. The face is not white, it's somewhere between a faded yellow and faded green, but the color does compliment the entire look of the clock. Keep that in mind, especially if you're putting it on a white wall and you're looking for a white face. The contrast will be very noticeable. The color of the face does not bother me since the wall I have it on is sand beige and it fits well, but I could see how it might bothersome to others.
All in all, I'm really pleased with this clock, even though I wish it were maybe an inch bigger (I think it would look just a bit better in the space, but I'm picky).

This was a small price to pay for a very nice, attractive wall clock. Love everything about it!Published 20 hours ago by Just Me
Great clock. Like the retro look. The second hand is a sweep and not a click, so it acts like a plug in - but it's not. Looks great over our bar!Published 14 days ago by Mister Dapeeg
It is an easy clock to read the only draw back is that I won't be able to have my blinds open in real sunny weather because the instructions say not to let direct sunlight shine on... Read morePublished 20 days ago by Harriet Kinder
