This review is from: Infinity Primus P152 2-WAY 5/25 Bookshelf Speaker (sold individually) (Office Product)
Past experience as a loudspeaker systems designer and audio shop owner are qualifications helpful in evaluating fine audio gear. I periodically test and compare components, particularly loudspeakers. As small monitor speakers go, these speakers perform at a level far beyond their price in fact besting many comparably-sized audiophile speakers costing many times more. Critical midrange is reproduced with fine clarity and detail that rival many of the finest systems I've heard. Bass response is very good for a speaker this size as is control without cone break-up. This is due to the quality of the mid bass driver, particularly it's cone, suspension and voice coil. The crossover blends the two drivers seamlessly. Highs are detailed and clean but slightly forward. Efficiency is relatively high, providing a pleasant listening experience even with low power amplifiers. To achieve this level of performance, the designer had to carefully optimized critical parameters and most likely had access to a well-equiped lab of design and measurement tools.

Pros:
Accurate response and natural music reproduction. Smooth and detailed midrange response for superb vocals. Quite good bass response. Compact size. Quality materials and construction. Properly shaped baffle. Low cost!

Cons:
At this price, none really. Highs may be too bright with some electronics. Will expose poor recordings. (Turn down the treble control to mitigate).

I've combined these with a subwoofer, crossing over at 90Hz, with surprising results. As I am particuarly impressed with the midrange response, I may experiment with replacing the tweeter to raise the performance bar. This effort will include modifications to the crossover network, test, measurement and hours of listening. Of course another stock pair will be obtained for comparison with the modified pair.

Whether you're an audiophile or audio tinkerer or someone seeking good loudspeakers at a very reasonable cost, you can't go wrong with the Infinity P152 loudspeakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars infinity primus p152, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Infinity Primus P152 2-WAY 5/25 Bookshelf Speaker (sold individually) (Office Product)
i aquired a set of these for a small music room/workshop for casual listening.driving them with a highly modified dynaco stereo 70 amp.casual listening soon turned into audiophile sessions with friends and myself being astounded by they're smooth high end and full midrange and sounstage was 3d and transparent.i do recommend augmentation with a sub if you use stands.on shelf the lows are more pronounced.they are easily driven with my 35 watt per channel amp .they are well built inside and out with a very nice looking black ash finish.grills are well built too.they won't rattle your neighbors walls due to they're size, but are more than enough to ruin your hearing [if your into that sort of thing] what they will do and do well is reproduce the music accurately with correct timbres and dynamics.my favorite choice for small to mid size rooms you could spend more but these out perform speakers in a higher class.an excellent choice

5.0 out of 5 stars Infinity Primus P152, July 1, 2009

This review is from: Infinity Primus P152 2-WAY 5/25 Bookshelf Speaker (sold individually) (Office Product)
Bought a new (under $50*) & used (under $30* - like new) Infinity Primus 152 bookshelf speaker for 13'X12' basement room w/ Harman-Kardon 3490 2-channel stereo receiver. Great speakers & inexpensive (this transaction) + prompt delivery. I'd researched bookshelf speakers for several months, finally deciding to buy (although I was nervous about it) when I saw the offer for one open-box speaker. It was in perfect condition and packed in the box as if it were new.

I appreciate the Infinity speakers' clarity and lack of distortion in music and spoken word, in contrast with sound from 1990s JBL speakers.

You should strongly consider adding these speakers for your surround or 2-channel stereo system. Although I'm not an audiophile who can tell you about highs and lows, I've listened to stereo sound for over 40 years, and this fits my needs now (I'll soon be 50) - for rock, jazz, folk, NPR, TV & movies. I might add a subwoofer, as I've become accustomed to more bass in another stereo system and home & work computers, but these speakers are fine on their own. For those assuming lack of volume, if I cranked the sound & left a window open, my neighbors would have reason to complain - and/or think my son moved back home.
