4.0 out of 5 stars A Ferrari it is Not, a Bargain it is, September 21, 2010
This review is from: Infinity Primus P162 6.5 Bookshelf Speaker (Office Product)
I remember a reviewer of the Pontiac GTO wrote that he heard of a driver with a lady passenger and another couple was driving one on a race track with the air conditioner on while passing up a Ferrari GTO. Maybe; but, I'll take the Ferrari, and Pontiac is out of business. Similar to the Infinity Primus P162 - a recent Stereophile Recommended Component winner - it is a wonderful speaker system, but it ain't a DRM.

When such an inexpensive speaker system won that prestigious award with the reviewers having scant a criticism, I had to have a pair.

And they are great sounding, especially if you listen to them with the bottom of the woofer pointing at your ear and the cabinets cantered in by a few degrees - the perfect set-up is to position each on top of a 10-inch powered subwoofer cabinet on a standard height stand with the aggregate angled in by 30 degrees with you at one corner if an equilateral triangle and the Infinitys at the other two (run the satellites full range [bi-wire] without the grills and set the cross-over and output level of the subwoofers [one per Infinity] as low as possible to compliment not usurp).

But they are not DRMs.

My two most critical test recordings are: song seven, Do You Love Me, on Clare Marlo's Let It Go and Song three, Your Own Sweet Way, on the Notting Hillbillies recordings.

The very difficult to reproduce solo vocals both sounded technically great - especially Mark Knopfler - I enjoyed the performances. But, when I played Mark on the DRMs, I felt that I was in the recording studio with him mouthing that microphone and tears came to my eyes as I heard Clare's lament of love lost.

A Ferrari it is not, a bargain it is.

I've heard many recommendations from my audiophile friends for a good set of speakers keeping in mind surround upgrade for the future. P162 were one of them - work wonderfully. Crisp sound, very nice mids, overall a great value for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Infinity Primus P162 6.5 Bookshelf Speaker (Office Product)
For the price, the P-162's in the infinity series do have a distinctly better sound than the p-152's and the p-142's............I would recomend if the price difference was right.
