A Ferrari it is Not, a Bargain it is,

This review is from: Infinity Primus P162 6.5 Bookshelf Speaker (Office Product)
I remember a reviewer of the Pontiac GTO wrote that he heard of a driver with a lady passenger and another couple was driving one on a race track with the air conditioner on while passing up a Ferrari GTO. Maybe; but, I'll take the Ferrari, and Pontiac is out of business. Similar to the Infinity Primus P162 - a recent Stereophile Recommended Component winner - it is a wonderful speaker system, but it ain't a DRM.
When such an inexpensive speaker system won that prestigious award with the reviewers having scant a criticism, I had to have a pair. And they are great sounding, especially if you listen to them with the bottom of the woofer pointing at your ear and the cabinets cantered in by a few degrees - the perfect set-up is to position each on top of a 10-inch powered subwoofer cabinet on a standard height stand with the aggregate angled in by 30 degrees with you at one corner if an equilateral triangle and the Infinitys at the other two (run the satellites full range [bi-wire] without the grills and set the cross-over and output level of the subwoofers [one per Infinity] as low as possible to compliment not usurp). But they are not DRMs. My two most critical test recordings are: song seven, Do You Love Me, on Clare Marlo's Let It Go and Song three, Your Own Sweet Way, on the Notting Hillbillies recordings. The very difficult to reproduce solo vocals both sounded technically great - especially Mark Knopfler - I enjoyed the performances. But, when I played Mark on the DRMs, I felt that I was in the recording studio with him mouthing that microphone and tears came to my eyes as I heard Clare's lament of love lost. A Ferrari it is not, a bargain it is.

I've heard many recommendations from my audiophile friends for a good set of speakers keeping in mind surround upgrade for the future. P162 were one of them - work wonderfully. Crisp sound, very nice mids, overall a great value for the price.

For the price, the P-162's in the infinity series do have a distinctly better sound than the p-152's and the p-142's............I would recomend if the price difference was right.

These are excellent speakers. The sound is smooth and realistic. The bass projects without being boomy or distorted. They are comparable to much more expensive products. I highly recommend them.

I have 7.2 sound and use these on the sides and rear surround. I have a big room so their size is not a big deal. Unless you were in an apartment or a small room, I would not use them on your front L/R and obviously it is not a center channel. I say this because typically your front 3 is where you would want to invest more of your coin on some powerhouse speakers. With these speakers you get way more than you are paying for and the quality is excellent. For a more technical review, go to CNet. I think these will serve me for years to come.

It is a great audio bargain for people who loves music but in budget or don't want to spend a fortune for the hobby, esp with the current discount price right now.
The Pros: -natural mid-range, good for vocal and instrumental -very decent bass for music. -good sound-stage -excellent price. Great performance/price The Cons: -wish the high is more extended and airy. If you are in budget and want to build good 2 channel system for under 1K, Infinity Primus (162, 252, 362) must be in your listening list. You can save the money for decent source and amplifier. Stereophile and Soundstage have rave reviews of the speakers (you can find them on their websites). There are many much better speakers out there. However, you will have to spend a lot more to get better sound. For the current price, it is hard to beat. Feed it with decent source, you will enjoy the music. Please also read the review of Craig Rutten below about the placement of the speakers. I follow Craig's advise and get better sound from the speakers. Happy listening

Outstanding Listening,
This review is from: Infinity Primus P162 6.5 Bookshelf Speaker (Office Product)
This is an amazing speaker/s. I first purchased Polk Audio RT35 speakers on Ebay and I received them damaged. I then purchased the Infinity P162. There was a world of difference in clarity. I can't say the sound of the Polks wasn't effected by the Postal Service shipping. They obviously were handled very roughly. Broken grill, damaged corner, broken hanger. But the Polks retailed for $100 more than the Infinity's. If the sound wasn't affected by the damage then the Infinity's were a better speaker for me. Even my wife could tell the difference and I believe she has a tin ear! The bass is also very good.

Good sound for small space,

This speaker provides great sound inexpensively. It works well for a small space as well as large and doesn't visually dominate the room.

Good product for the price, but...,
This review is from: Infinity Primus P162 6.5 Bookshelf Speaker (Office Product)
After ordering these speakers, advertised on Amazon as in stock, ships in one day, we got a call from Audioholics to advise that they were sold out and ours would ship in a another week. They graciously offered to expedite shipping at their cost, or to provide free cables. I elected free cables. So far so good. The Audioholics rep and I then had a conversation about the jacks, and he stated incorrectly that the speaker ins were banana plugs. So he sent the "right" cables with banana plugs at both ends. Unfortunately the speaker ins are those stupid bare-wire posts. (1) Infinity should fit their speakers with the more convenient banana plugs; (2) the seller's rep should have known what he was talking about and shipped the correct cables. Of course I cut the plugs off one end, and it's not that big a deal; but, these types of problems are directly related to satisfaction with on-line shopping compared with in-store shopping, where they usually know what's in stock and can see the speaker ins and match the cables correctly, so these types of problems are exactly what Amazon should be most vigilant against. All you need to do is REQUIRE the seller of electronic components to specify the connectors, something every bit as important as the color or dimensions of the product.
