Product Description

Infinity Primus Two-way dual 5-1/4" center-channel speaker Black (Each)

From the Manufacturer

The center of attention.

Prepare to raise your expectations. Experience home entertainment at a new level of clarity and realism. From unobtrusive bookshelf systems to dazzlingly powerful home theaters, there's an Infinity Primus speaker that's right for every purpose and room in your home.

Most other speaker systems in the Primus price range sound as if they are spraying their sound at you - tinny, hollow and reproduced - a copy of a copy. With its MMD transducer technology and seamless component architecture working in unison to eliminate unwanted resonance modes, the Primus P253BK doesn't spray - it immerses, rolling over the listener with warm, rich sound the way live music does. Pair it with any one of our powerful MMD-equipped floorstanding loudspeakers, subwoofers, and center-channel speakers, and the Infinity Primus P253BK will fill any room with dramatic and well-defined sound. This is where Infinity sound begins, and it's well within your reach.

INFINITY PRIMUS PC251BK - At a Glance.

  • Two-way center-channel loudspeaker
  • Dual 5 1/4" (133mm) MMD® low-frequency drivers
  • 3/4" (19mm) MMD high-frequency driver
  • Five-way binding posts
  • Legendary Infinity engineering - speaker components seamlessly work together as an integrated system
  • Extremely low resonance enclosures - hear music exactly as it was recorded
  • Tweeter waveguides improve on-and-off-axis high-frequency response
  • Precision crossover networks
  • Patented MMD transducers significantly improve cone performance, providing ideal rigidity and resistance to precision sound
    across the entire spectrum

  • The PC251BK's tweeter delivers crystal clear high frequencies.

Music and Movies as they were meant to be heard.

Patented MMD transducer technology improves sonic accuracy

Derived from our patented CMMD technology, the Metal Matrix Diaphragm (MMD) approach continues the Infinity tradition of using advanced materials to improve sonic accuracy. These diaphragms are much stiffer than standard metal ones - by anodizing both sides of an aluminum core, we're able to significantly improve cone performance and outperform cones made of paper, polypropylene or Kevlar material.

The patented MMD material's sandwich design makes the driver incredibly strong and lightweight.

By virtue of its extreme rigidity and resistance to resonance, the MMD material is far more than just another diaphragm substance. It is an ideal diaphragm material for the ultimate listening experience. Sound propagates at a higher velocity in metals than in materials such as polymers and papers. Sound will travel through MMD material nearly twice as fast as it will through any other cone material - thus, moving unwanted resonances outside the audible range.

Acoustical waveguides deliver wide high-frequency response

Where you sit in a room as you listen to speakers can have just as great an effect on their sound quality as the speakers themselves.

By using an acoustical waveguide, high frequencies have a wide dispersion throughout the room.
To make sure listening to the Primus PC251BK is truly a great experience everywhere in the room and that movie dialog is crisp and intelligible, they use a proprietary "waveguide" around the tweeter. This waveguide ensures a wide dispersion of the high frequencies throughout the room while keeping them both accurate and natural-sounding. The result is an enveloping, realistic sound experience with pinpoint dialog reproduction making the PC351BK perfect for critical music and movie reproduction.

Low-Resonance enclosures do not change or alter the sound

A great sounding loudspeaker should play just what it's told to without changing or altering the sound. One way that a poorly designed loudspeaker can change the sound is when the enclosure resonates or vibrates. Resonance can change a speaker's overall tonal balance and totally alter the sound of the recording that it plays. To eliminate any enclosure resonance from the PC251BK center channel loudspeaker, Infinity engineers the enclosure using pinpoint internal bracing that increases rigidity so it does not vibrate or resonate. Vocals sound clear and natural while the soundstage is smooth and precise. Plus there's the added advantage of a sleek, narrow enclosure that's at home in nearly any room decor.

Superior Infinity engineering delivers sound perfection

Many loudspeaker manufacturers are actually loudspeaker assemblers, buying parts off the shelf from different companies with the goal of assembling them into a final product. While this might help keep costs down, it gives very little guarantee about how the speakers are going to sound. The Infinity Primus PC251BK's speaker drivers, baffles, cabinets and waveguides are all designed and engineered by Infinity to work seamlessly together as an integrated system, fitting together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. And since Infinity has engineered each piece for the best possible sound quality, the result is a loudspeaker that we can guarantee will dazzle you no matter what you happen to be listening to.

Infinity - Legendary reputation. Uncompromising craftsmanship and sound.

With the Infinity Primus PC251BK, you not only experience the cutting edge in high-performance transducer technology and sound reproduction, you experience the cutting edge from the makers of Infinity products - some of the world's most innovative, high-quality audio equipment. The road to the Infinity Primus series is a road lined with dozens of audio milestones: The Infinity Servo Statik 1a - the world's first powered subwoofer. The EMIT (Electromagnetic Induction Tweeter) device. The revolutionary IRS speaker - the world's first "reference" loudspeaker. The Prelude MTS speaker - the world's first powered tower speaker. Since 1968, innovative Infinity technologies, materials and manufacturing techniques have advanced the science of sound, and have set new standards in loudspeaker technology and performance. Infinity Primus Series speakers benefit from every Infinity innovation that has come before. This is where Infinity sound begins, and it's well within your reach.

I am not an audiophile. I repeat, I am not an audiophile.

I purchased this center channel speaker in conjunction with 4 P163BK speakers for a HT and Music setup. I have been nothing but pleased with the performance thus far. The speaker handles the frequency range quite well and excels with dialogue. The speaker is large but is extremely well built.

I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a center in a budget-minded surround sound setup.

A couple months ago, I decided to do an upgrade at Center for my home theater. At the time, I had a 7.1 Infinity Reference bookshelf speaker system with the Infinity Beta C250 center channel speaker. I liked the Beta center, but the sound didn't quite fit with my other speakers and I sometimes had a hard time understanding the dialogue in movies and TV shows.

I knew I wanted to stick with Infinity when I got the new speaker, to keep the uniformity of the home theater. After doing some research, I narrowed my search down to the Infinity Primus line of center channel speakers. The PC351 would have been a great speaker, but I do not have room for it with my current setup (it is a monstrous speaker), and I didn't want an overpowering center channel since I have bookshelf speakers.

I settled on this Infinity Primus PC251, and it fit what I needed to the "T". Dialogue is clear, music sounds fantastic (just watched Phantom of the Opera with the new speaker), and overall the tone is much richer and more detailed. It has plenty of power behind it, too. I would highly recommend this speaker to anyone who has a mid-range audio system and is looking for a good Center channel!

It took me a while to complete a set but the infinity primus bookshelf and center-channel speakers make a great 5-1 surround sound system. Clear crisp sound at low levels and can crank when you want it.

This is a great mid sized center channel speaker. For a theater on a budget your affordable choices are limited. There is plenty of low grade, low budget speakers as well as high end big dollar choices. But finding something that is affordable with out sounding low quality is tough. The Infinity Primus is a great compromise between great sound quality and affordability. Of course it doesn't sound like a $1000 center channel but it is surely sounds better than what I paid for it. I'm happy with it and would buy it again..... ya know, if I needed a second center channel for some reason.

I am not certain of how good this speaker is. I do not always hear the dialog unless the sound is up. I currently have the center speaker calibrated +2dB higher than the others to help with the dialog. (I am 59 and with a recent hearing test I know my ears have lost some ability). It is hard to blame my ears since I have some Infinity Primus 163 bookshelfs I am very happy with. I have toyed with the idea in my mind of maybe throwing some money at a JBL LC1 if it ever falls to an insane low price.

Great speaker. I used it to replace a Energy Take One Classic 5.1 center speaker along with Infinity P163s for the fronts. Just the center alone transformed the sound.
