I ordered these to replace the factory speakers for the front of my 2005 Chevy Colorado, and I couldn't be happier. The 6500CX Reference Component Speaker set comes with (2) 6 1/2" Woofers, (2) 3/4" Uni-Pivot Tweeters, (2) Component Crossovers, (2) Universal Mounting Brackets, all the hardware needed to install the system, some single-sided sticky foam for the backs of the speakers and the tweeters, (2) Pivoting Tweeter Mounts, (2) Customizable Tweeter Flush Mounts, (2) Fixed Tweeter Mounts, and (2) "Infinity" Badges if you use the factory grills for the woofers. It does not come with any wiring harnesses, speaker wire, or wire splices, so make sure you have some if you plan on installing these. It took a while to figure out how to mount the crossovers in the door, so that when I put the door panel back on it wouldn't crush them, but mounting them just under the armrest bracket worked out perfectly. I ran them straight from my Pioneer DEH-3200UB Head Unit, utilizing the existing wiring for the factory woofers. I just disconnected the factory tweeters, and ran the crossovers from the woofer wires and split them to the speakers. You don't want to run the tweeters from the factory wires, as I was told by the guys at Crutchfield that the factory wiring uses as transistor for the tweeters and it will not work with the aftermarket ones, so you have to use the included crossover and run it from the full range woofer wiring. To mount the tweeters I had to cut out the factory grills from the door panels and used the pivot mounts. I was able to use the factory grills for the woofers though. The crossovers have a switch on them labeled "3dB", that is for adjusting the output of the tweeters. Pushing it in increases the tweeter range up 3dB for a higher sound output.Read more ›

I purchased one pair of the REF-6500CX for my front car doors. I had a difficult time choosing between the various 6.5" speakers, but knew I wanted Infinity because I've been pleased with them in the past. The final choice was between the older 6030cs and the REF-6500CX. I chose the silk-dome tweeter REF-6500CX due to reports of the 6030cs's metallic tweeters being too harsh, plus I like the aesthetics of the newer crossover better. I find that the highs are not too harsh with my choice.

I'm running these with a pair of older Reference 652i 2-Way 6.5" (early 2000's) in the rear deck. In comparison the REF-6500CX produces much deeper and cleaner bass. The lower profile of the REF-6500CX allowed me to mount them in the door where the 652i 2-Way did not seat low enough for flush fit of the door panel. The downside was the extra work to wire and mount the crossovers, as well as the tweeters.

My system includes a Alpine deck and Alpine Power Pack KTP-445U amplifier.

I used these components to replace the Bose speakers in my new Mazda 3. I used these to replace the Bose door woofers and located the tweeters where the Bose mid/high speakers in the dash were located. I had to fabricate custom mounts for the tweeters so they could be hidden and did that by taking the factory Bose speakers and cutting off the magnets and then buying a 1.25" PVC pipe coupler with a plug and cutting them down to size and then gluing them to the speaker frame.

I've had both good and adequate Infinity speakers in the past and didn't want to go for the cheaper component models, but didn't want to pay for the Kappa's either. It was a good choice as the range is decent, lows are clear and not boomy (like the Bose system), and highs are adequate and clear, but slightly metallic. I can push them up to reasonable levels without noticeable distortion. That said, I replaced my rear door speakers with Polk 651s slim speakers because of fit issues and the larger frequency range of those units. They are also less expensive. The Infinity speakers sound better, but the back is primarily fill-in and I didn't need this level of quality there.

I do find a very slight clarity issue near the crossover point and there is a tonal change between the woofer and tweeter in the higher midrange which you can hear if you are an audiophile. If that is an issue, you're going to have to go to high end Focal or Dynaudio type components which are 4 times more expensive. I can't justify that type of spending for only a subtle change. While I wish the tweeters were a little better quality, these are excellent speakers and I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

I really like these speakers. They replaced the stock Bose system in my car and these sound even better. I'm running them off an Alpine headunit (50w x 4) without an external amp and they sound great. This is a component system with separate tweeters and crossovers. Installation was fairly easy....the hardest part was removing the door panels! I love the Infinity brand (I have a 20 year old pair of home speakers still sound like new) and their dedication to quality. I compared these in-store to more expensive Polk's and I liked these better.

A bit harder to install given that you have to do two installations
over one but worth it. I put my tweeters up on the dash reflecting the high
end off the glass. Brought the sound staging up higher around the head.
Impressive!
