4.0 out of 5 stars The good and the bad.
First the good.

Attractive/different looking that everything else.
Easily wipeable to clean.
Speakers don't sound like anything special individually, but all together they are pleasing.

Now for the bad.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are OK for compact speakers
I purchased these from Costco for way less than anywhere online. I have the predecessor to these as well, which I like better. The 500's are compact and lightweight, but the center channel makes voices sound somewhat hollow. The subwoofer is decent, and in 6 channel stereo mode on my Yamaha, the sound is very good. First the good.

Attractive/different looking that everything else.
Easily wipeable to clean.
Speakers don't sound like anything special individually, but all together they are pleasing.

Now for the bad.

(wall mount only) Speaker mount nut is burried between the wire posts which is in a 3/4" deep recess.
The posts are very close to the nut which makes tightening them impossible. You can't use a wrench
or a socket. I ultimately used a large pair of pliers with a side cutout that cleared the ball on the post.
I would imagine that they get speakers back all the time with broken wire posts.

The nuts that are used to secure the speakers to the wall mount break easily if you try to make the speakers
feel "secure". I broke one.

The sub looks nice, but its about 1/3 larger than it needs to be for the output.

Also if you wall mount these you must use their included brackets, other ones won't work due to the crazy design.
(I tried others when I broke the one and there is now easy way.)

If you don't need to wall mount, these are all non issues except for the size of the woofer.

I had a hard time deciding between these and Polk RM705s, and knowing how difficult the wall mounting would
be I definitely would have chosen the Polks with a wall mount bracket set.

3.0 out of 5 stars These are OK for compact speakers, July 8, 2010
This review is from: Infinity TSS-500CHR High-Performance, 6-Piece Home Theater Speaker System (Charcoal Black) (Electronics)
In normal pro-logic mode, the sound is lacking compared to my full size Infinity speakers, but I did expect that going in. I was looking to replace my failing speakers and save some space. I ended up using my old 15" subwoofer for very low frequencies and the packaged Infinity woofer doing the mid bass. This way, they have more punch and it helps fill in for the small satellites. Overall, these are good, especially if you pick them up for $250 as I did.

I have these speakers connected to a Pioneer VSX-919AH-K 120 Watts A/V Receiver with Full Color GUI/OSD, Advanced MCACC and Analog to HDMI Up-Conversion (Black) You can hear all of the notes distinctly and was a vast improvement over my older Sony htib speakers. The subwoofer is a bit big, but you'll be very pleased with the quality of the bass. One of my major concerns was speaker size since my living room is not very big. These speakers fit easily on a end table, lamp table and along side my flat screen. I am quite impressed with these speakers and do recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Infinity TSS-500CHR High-Performance, 6-Piece Home Theater Speaker System (Charcoal Black) (Electronics)
Just got these speakers today, and let me say I am loving them! I have them hooked up to a Yamaha HTR-6240, and they seem quite a nice match. When I put in the new Star Trek blu-ray after configuring them, I was just blown away by the sound quality! Very clear, precise audio, and the bass response from the sub is way better than I thought it would be from an 8" sub. Voices sound clear, music and effects made me sit up and take notice. Explosions made my cat run and hide under the bed.

The multiple mounting hardware choices are clever, easy to use, and are designed to make them look neat and streamlined from every angle. The satellites and center channel are gorgeous to look at, and are quite a bit heavier than I thought they would be, which makes me think "quality." The sub also is quite heavy and appears to be well made. They look great with my new 50inch Samsung plasma, even though they aren't piano black.

I don't have anything negative to say about these speakers, and am simply thrilled with my purchase. I was a little worried that once I got them I would be regretful that I didn't spring for the TSS-800, but I have no regrets. Go ahead and buy them, you won't be sorry. This is a budget system, but it sounds a lot better than the price would let you believe.

This is an awesome set of speakers for almost any system. I set up in a brand new club room, and they sound terrific! It's unfortunate that the Griswold review on this site discusses issues with another supplier, and doesn't rate this site, nor the speakers. The review should never have been left below...

I've purchased this set and for what they're intended to do is more than adequate for my bedroom. Don't expect to sound like a thousand bucks but comparing them to $500 systems they sound awesome and coming from a brand that's well known you can't beat these at this price!

I am very new to the surround sound niche, and first listened to this set in the store and liked it enough to purchase it, but not at the high store prices. What would we do without Amazon? Anyway, I bought a Onkyo TX-SR304S 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver to go with it, also through Amazon. (in fact, I paid less for the receiver, speakers, blu-ray DVD, HDMI and 16 gauge speaker wire at Amazon than the speaker system alone at the store). (I also found out the receiver has no HDMI connection, so I used a coaxial cable instead, works just as well). After I figured out all the wiring to it, the TV and blu-ray player, I can only say I am very pleased. The only two things I would like to see is they include speaker stands with the units. I am sure they can include it in the package for a whole lot less than what they sell it for separately. I didn't get any, however, opting to hang them on the wall. The bracket system took a little time to figure out, but once I saw how it went together, it was pretty easy. The other thing is the wire. The wire is not 16 gauge, and having to spend more $$$'s to get the bigger size was a pain since I waited 10 days to get the wire, and I had the speakers in 2 days. The supplied wire was almost .020" smaller than 16 gauge. Whether or not the sound is better with 16 gauge or the one supplied, I do not know, I have just always used the thicker wire. Surely they couldn't save that much by using smaller wire.
