5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected greatness
I bought this CD because it was recommended with OAR and after I listened to a few tracks I bought it. I wasn't expecting what it gave me, which is one of the hottest CDs that I own right now. It makes you think and laugh all in the same song. There are no skipover tracks on this CD like most but instead there are those songs that make you want to let your window down...

5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected greatness, October 17, 2005

I bought this CD because it was recommended with OAR and after I listened to a few tracks I bought it. I wasn't expecting what it gave me, which is one of the hottest CDs that I own right now. It makes you think and laugh all in the same song. There are no skipover tracks on this CD like most but instead there are those songs that make you want to let your window down and turn up the music and drive. If you want to get in on the groove do it now before this band gets exposed for greatness that way you can be one of the cool people who said I have liked them since their beginning. Overall, this is a MUST MUST buy CD, my favorite tracks are 2,3,7,9,10, which is almost half the CD, GO FIGURE!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Band, Awesome CD, January 12, 2006

I first saw The Southland this summer when they opened, along with Pepper, for O.A.R. at a concert in Indy. I sat down right as they began to play, and I wasn't expecting anything too special. Boy, was I wrong. The Southland was great live and really set the mood for later. Everyone was in awe at how great their songs were and how great they were at getting the crowd into their performance. Their songs are so chill, fun, and relaxing, and you can find a hint of California in all of their songs. I bought the cd just recently, and I love it. They're a great band and anyone who likes to relax and listen to great music that puts you in a good mood needs to check out The Southland's Influence of Geography. You'll really enjoy listening to it.

While I buy a lot of music and attend a slew of live concerts every year, I've never written a review. I felt compelled to write about The Southland.

I saw The Southland last summer in Indy, with OAR. They were the best band of the night. I bought their CD at the concert and two of the band members signed the insert. They were so approachable. Over the past year I repeatedly found myself putting in their CD and listening over and over, because like so many other reviewers--I NEVER tire of their music! Hard to pick favorites, but their cover of "I Only Have Eyes For You" makes me smile and I love "Miles" and "The Drowning."

Get this CD!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond in the rough, October 21, 2005

The string of OAR opening act gems continues (Virginia Coalition's "OK to Go" is phenomenal). I stumbled upon The Southland opening for OAR this summer. Jed Whedon stole the show. Their live performance was so outstanding that I bought the CD and can honestly say it has been my favorite CD of the past year. It's simply an excellent album from beginning to end. I am baffled that this band is not bigger than they are. If this album is any indication of what's to come, I'm certain is only a matter of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clutch CD, November 16, 2005

This CD is amazing. You will become addicted to it and listen to it over and over and over again without it getting old. Every single song is awesome. Some of my favorites are: Shadow, Shining Sun, Debris, Creatures, Each his Own, Drowning, and Radio. The music just is unreal and has a tendency to make you compulsively tap your foot or play air guitar. The Southland is even better live...unreal. Buy it now, it will be the best CD purchase you make this year.

Is it legal to be THIS good? Jesus. Quite possibly the best album I've ever owned. Their harmonies and arrangements are so interesting, smooth and unreal. Out of this world, don't even bother trying to listen to it first, freakin buy it.

I got my first dose of The Southland when they were on tour with Tristan Prettyman in Portland and Seattle a little over a year and a half ago and I was hooked. Since then I have seen them perform live five more times and have grown to love them more and more each time. Truth is, you are missing out if you don't already own this cd!
