D'Elfippo and Ball's The Infographic History of the World was designed to elucidate interesting data for the entire history of the universe through infographics. Alas, the result is a mess. The book is divided into four sections - from the big bang, through the evolution of humans, the rise of nations, and the modern era - each of which have two or four pages of infographics on the topic. It is not always clear what the idea behind any particular topic. Unfortunately, the infographics often do not help clarify the data or information.
Many of the infographics are nice enough graphics, but have very low information density. Some of them are hopeless. Interesting data on earthquakes, for example, is apparently superimposed on a world map, but the outline of the continents can't be seen. Color choices are arbitrary and it is frequently difficult to distinguish very similar shades used for discrete information. Some of important data in the infographics is lost in the binding - a poor design choice.
I am an avid reader - but when I can find 'pictures' I am even more drawn into factual information. This is a true stunner! It is creative, lovely to look at, great 'coffee table book' that everyone who comes into our home picks up and more than scans.

The way information is graphically displayed makes comprehending massive data (like the size of the universe) easier and fun. I haven't read the whole book all the way through but guests love picking it up and perusing.

This book is outstanding in all regards: appearance, explanations, sense of humor, clarity. I study one graph each day to improve my knowledge base. I recommend this book to anyone who is seeking answers to questions such as, "where does language come from?" The graphics are clever and entertaining.

This is wonderful, both the graphics and the writing that accompanies the graphics. It is very effective for putting historical events in perspective, and highlighting unique events that you probably don't remember from history class.
