Amazon.com Review
Business was fast-paced before e-commerce. Now it's moving at warp speed. Keep an eye on what the nerds are up to with InformationWeek, the slick magazine that covers the tech world from a business perspective. Though it keeps the jargon levels down, it assumes its readers are intelligent and curious, which creates a refreshing editorial style in a sea of dumbed-down technical publications. Packed with short news bits of vital importance to 21st-century managers, it keeps up with trends in businesses as disparate as mobile commerce, pharmaceuticals, and, of course, microchips, to paint a broad picture of the worldwide collaboration between engineers and MBAs. The lengthier features focus on specific aspects of the trade, like grid computing and expertise management. It won't slow down the rate of change, but InformationWeek will help its readers keep up the pace. --Rob Lightner

3.0 out of 5 stars Technology and its Impact on Business, July 20, 2006
Information Week is a magazine designed for business people of all ages and stripes and its one of the few magazines I read that offers articles that are broad based in appeal. Most business magazines are aimed at specific people in an organization, like executives, office employees, or some other group. But Information Week has articles that can pertain to anyone across a wide range of businesses.

One of the more interesting aspects of Information Week is its consistency. The issues are exactly 68 pages in length and I cannot recall reading any issue that wasn't this precise length. Also, many of the monthly departments are found in exactly the same place. The departments (like Feedback, Hot On- Line, IT Confidential, Down to Business, etc.) are always found on the same pages in each issue. Information Week is one of the few publications like this. Most magazines have a regular set of departments but few, if any, have the departments in exactly the same place in each issue.

Among the different departments in this magazine, the one I read first is IT Confidential. IT Confidential is a good section because it discusses a topic related to security. Often, this one- page article will deal with something related to privacy issues, computer viruses, and the like. This makes it relevant to everyone- not just business people but ordinary people who have a personal computer at home and worry about surveillance and the possibility of virus infection.

The other area that I like in Information Week is the "News & Analysis" section, where one can usually find about six or seven featured articles. These longer stories include breaking news stories and personal stories about giants of high- tech and their secrets to business. Other articles deal with government regulation of the internet and attempts to control its usage; virus threats; identity theft on- line; and other interesting and relevant topics that most anyone will enjoy.

Among the weaknesses of Information Week are some of the departments like Hot On- Line. What I don't like about this one- page department is that it is basically a collection of web links to specific stories relating to high tech. This bugs me- why should I have to logon to the internet to read a quick story? Why not just print the story in the magazine? It is true that the links sometimes have interesting, interactive links that ask questions, include poll results, and have other on- line activities. But I don't like having to run to a computer when I read a magazine just to read a basic article. The reason we buy magazines is so that we don't need to go anywhere else to read. Other departments are equally weak, like "High Five". It doesn't really tell you enough to make it worthwhile. It is just a simple list with a few sentences of information after each of the five rankings.

Another area of Information Week that I like is found near the end of each issue. It is called "Personal Tech Guide". Here, you can find a few new products and a short description of each. This section could be improved, however, if it had more information on how to actually buy the items, like a web site and/or phone number. There is nothing to help the consumer make a purchase so if you have an interest, you will need to logon to the internet and conduct a general search.

Overall, in spite of a few flaws, Information Week is still a magazine I recommend. The magazine has wide appeal to everyone (not just business managers and executives), and good, timely articles on newsworthy stories relating to the world of high tech, making Information Week a worthwhile read. I can think of several ways to improve it but it is definitely acceptable exactly the way it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent trade publication, January 24, 2006
I like that Information week pulls together information with both a techinical and business side. Articles range from important software developments, best business practices, employment trends, and so much more. This is a magazine you can quickly and easily pick up information that you want. I look forward to reading my weekly edition of this magazine.
