Product Description

Ingersoll

During their years of tireless creative urge, Robert and Charles Ingersoll, the founders of one of the oldest American watch manufacturers, established many milestones in the field of developing pocket and wrist watches. They followed an ambitious plan that incorporated on the one hand, to offer watches to the broad public, and on the other hand to offer reasonable prices whilst maintaining real quality. In 1892, thanks to Henry Ford, they succeeded in developing an automated method of production, first for pocket watches and later for wrist watches. Alongside the existing handcrafted production of Ingersoll watches, an automated production of watches was established.

With high quality and precision, at the very reasonable price of 1 dollar (which was a day's wages at the time) the so-called "Dollar-Watch" was born. The Dollar-Watch became so popular that about 1 million of these watches were produced. Even Theodore Roosevelt mentioned that during his hunting trip in Africa he was described as "the man from the country where Ingersoll was produced."

The success of the "Dollar Watch" (also called the "Yankee") from then on was amazing. The Ingersoll brothers had to adapt to increasing production and increasing production plants. Meanwhile, the product range had been expanded by some technical pioneering refinements. Also the production of the smallest pocket watch ever seen had begun. In 1919 the Ingersoll brothers developed the first watch with the so called "night design", the "Radiolite" with luminous dial.

This ingersoll ghandi fine automatic timepiece features a classic skeleton dial showing the inner workings of its mechanism. Inspired by the watch that muhammed ghandi once carried himself. This watch has an all stainless steel case with a polished finish, and it is water resistant to 30 meters.

How unfortunate that Ingersoll chooses to ignore their customers. This is a good looking, interesting watch. It does feel a bit on the cheap side for a watch that was clearly designed to catch the eye. This is NOT a high quality watch. This is Chinese assembly line stuff. I would have gladly paid an additional hundred, hundred fifty dollars, to have the watch be more substantial and better made. Despite the downsides, I would have kept the watch (Amazon had a great sale) and worn it if only Ingersoll paid any attention to customer service. Customer service in the US is one guy, who you have to catch at his desk, since his voicemail disconnects. The customer service line does not even go to customer service, it goes to another department. And speaking to anyone else in their California office gets you nothing but a lot of bad attitude. I tried emailing the main office in London and they didn't even acknowledge they received my email. The website has no useful information to address any issues you may have. All I wanted was to switch out the wristband. Simple request, right? I have done it dozens of times with the other watches I own. I was told by the lone customer service rep that all I had to do was unscrew it. After I failed to get the screw to budge, I brought it to a jeweler in town who I know employs their own watchmaker. The watchmaker and two jewelers working together could not undo the screws without damaging the watch. The watchmaker is guessing that Ingersoll probably had issues with the screws coming loose, so they now most likely use an adhesive.Read more ›

I did a good bit of research and chose this watch for the features, the look and the reputation of the brand. I have had it two weeks and love it!
Packaging was amazing. Instructions were minimal, but acceptable. Band is finicky but beautiful. The watch itself though has been flawless. All aspects work perfectly and it looks great. I had surgery the day before receiving it so have not been very active, yet the self-wind has been great-I have not had to wind it after taking it out of the box the first day.
How it lasts is yet to be seen, but I couldn't be much happier.
    Regards,
    Randy

This is a watch with a lot of bling. But the better watches are also thin, and this is where my displeasure lies. The specification for this watch states it as being 8mm, which is good. Using a caliper, the measurement is 14.47, not so good. The winder alone is 6.63mm. This watch is thick, and 8mm is a lie.

That gripe aside, the watch keeps reasonably good time, and will provoke interest.

So will many other watches, that are a lot less expensive.

Very nice looking watch and feels durable and well crafted. I love the clasp on the leather band which gives it the functionality of a metal band. This should limit the wear a normal leather band would take on. The one knock I have is the date goes up to 39 days which seems strange, but I'm guessing that's tied to the internal mechanics of the watch.
