5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for an impact? Look no further.
I've gone through probably 6 or 8 impacts (maybe more) in my career. It wasn't until 4 years ago, my tool salesman recommended the 2131. At first I wasn't to sure about the composite housing. Then I hooked it up and it sounded really wimpy! I thought I made a mistake. No way. This thing has such balance and control it's awesome. The one thing I've noticed is the harmonics...

2.0 out of 5 stars HIGH MAINTENANCE
I sell and repair tools all day long. This tool is over priced, and has many engineering faults. As with any air tool you need to lubricate it @ the end of every day. This model in particular. It is made of plastic. For the money and power I would go w/ a Ingersoll Rand model 231 or 231XP. If you have a few extra bucks and want more power go w/ the model 244. This tool...

The one thing I've noticed is the harmonics in the hammer mechanism gives a more smooth and balanced torque to whatever you're working on. As far as durability goes, I've dropped mine several times and is still going. The power is a different story. This thing has loosened stuff a 3/4 inch drive gun wouldn't move! It's easy to control and easy to work with for extended periods of time because of the weight. Mine has lasted four years and is still going strong. It is the only choice for a powerful 1/2" impact!

I work catapiller in there truck shop. When doing an rebulding an engineI don't have to get my 3/4" impact wrench out to pull the mains or rods, not evan on most head bolts. It is a work of art. I love it. It is light and compact, and fits my hand perfectly.

Truely a great piece of work. Lightweight with adjustable torque setting up to 450 ft-lbs in forward, unreal 600 ft-lbs max in reverse. Too cool! All this at a price less than some heavier and larger impact wrenches. Make sure you dial your air pressure to the recommended 90 psi before running it though, it'll spin way faster in reverse than you think!

I love this tool - it is light weight - fits great in your hand - I haven't had a problem taking any lug nuts off with this tool. It costs a little more then other tools but after using this tool all day long and breaking all the lug nuts - it is worth the money

5.0 out of 5 stars Strange Little Impact, January 5, 2004

This is one amazing little gun! I bought it because it was unusual, and because of it's claim for 600 ft/lbs.

The hammer housing is metal, but the air vane housing and handle are composite plastic, which makes it very light, but still surprisingly strong. I can use this thing all day long straight over head with very little fatigue. The trigger is variable pressure which can be invaluable at times, and a swiveling air inlet so you don't get tangles. It has easy thumb action forward/reverse buttons on the rear that are just in the right spot, and a 4 position power adjustment knob. I've found that the lowest setting on the knob tightens lug nuts perfectly. It is also very compact, and fits in very small spaces, which is great.

Yes, it does speak softly, but it carries a big stick! I showed it to the guys, and they told me it was "cute". Meanwhile they showed me they're big, bad, top-of-the-line Snap-On impact, and said it's the new sheriff in town. Sure, it was bigger (and heavier), costed alot more than mine, and sure did look pretty, but.....you'd be surprised how many times they asked to use my gun to take out a stubborn rusted strut bolt. That's the icing on the cake!

So YES! I definately would recommend this to anyone that wants an impact is light, compact, powerful, well worth the price, and a conversation piece. If not, then just wait for the Snap-On truck to come, I'm sure he'd be glad to sell you one of his.

I have owned quite a few impacts in my career, but none will ever compare to this one. I haven't found much that I couldn't loosen. The exhaust is muffled so it does have a wimpy sound. At times, I have had to check the compressor to see if it had enough air. Other techs have told me that it doesn't sound like it can loosen a 1/4 inch nut. They soon found out that it is the strongest impact in the shop.i have had this particular impact for 6 years and even with no water separators in the air lines and the tank drained about once every month, I know it will still last another 6. I.R. has a new Titanium impact that advertises to put out 1000 lbs. of torque. I think I will buy that one for the job and take this one home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of power, December 2, 2002
This review is from: Ingersoll-Rand 2131 1/2-Inch Ultra Duty Air Impact Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just changed shocks on a full size pickup and wonder if I could've done it without this tool. They were rusted on pretty good, but click-click-click-click here they come. Wow! And though it is applying 600 ft-lbs, I could hold a wrench on the bolt side and it didn't try to rip my hand off. The tool is small, too, so you can get it in tight places. My only complaint is the housing seems to pick up dirt and scratches pretty easy (I work on a dirt driveway). Also, a tool of this price should come with a case, not just a cardboard box, and one that fits the tool with the hose fitting!
