I bought this die grinder and a ingersoll rand 3108 super duty die grinder 2 months ago for use at my job as a welder. These 2 die grinders are the worst and most expensive by far in the shop.

First off most air tools will have something on them to adjust their speed, these being no different except for the fact that they don't work. The screws which are supposed to be able to allow the airflow pressure to be reduced don't work at all. It is full blast at all times.

Secondly, if the die grinder bits are fastened down with enough force where the bits won't fly out of the collet when being used then the ball bearings buzz and rub very strongly. These die grinders feel as though they are extremely worn out unless the bit is not securely fastened. There is not middle ground, it is one or the other and take it from someone with tendonitis, they feel like hell to use.

Thirdly, the fastening tools provided by IR bend very easily. Expect only about 10 uses out of them before you will have to switch to conventional wrenches, metric of course.

Fourth, after about 2 weeks of using the right angle die grinder the head has become unfastened from the body and will spin around when I try to use it. No instructions were included with the die grinder as to maintenance, use, troubleshooting or anything else so I am left to guessing as to fixing the problem. IR has also neglected to include tools to fasten down the shoulder to the neck as well. I have tried to use an adjustable crescent wrench to fasten the neck, but that results in 2 problems, the first being that the neck is no longer aligned with the trigger resulting in a tool that is clumsy to use, unless maybe you are left handed which I am not, and second it becomes loose again very easily.

I bought this tool as an upgrade to my HF die grinders. I've owned it 8 months and only used it occasionally. The motor now feels like crap and wont hardly turn. The head came loose and is now out of adjustment. There are no papers on setting it and since I didn't register it in the first 6 months I can't get it warranted now. Did I mention it was made in China? A waist of $120. It may of had more power than my HF knock offs but they have at least been dependable.

Got this grinder because of IR's reputation for air tools and the price was about what the "tool truck" guys wanted for their off brand Chinese stuff. Turns out this one is made in China too. Overall looks like it is built better than some of the off brand stuff other guys in the shop have but performance sucks! The bearings feel loose and are noisy brand new. Biggest complaint though is the throttle, or lack of. The trigger sticks terribly and once pressed it pops to full throttle, not much control over speed. I won't be wasting the extra money for IR tools anymore.

I'll have to agree with the previous poor review of this grinder. This is just another example of CHINESE CRAP! Right out of the box it sounds like all of the internal parts are misaligned or the bearings were destroyed when it was assembled. This grinder will be returned ASAP. I have lots of IR tools in my shop and have always been satisfied until now, however those tools were made in America. I'm sure I'm not alone on this one. Don't waste your cash on this tool. ARE YOU LISTENING INGRERSOLL-RAND??? You are losing your customers!

I love this tool. Unlike the person who wrote a review before me. I have had no trouble at all. It is much quieter than other and has much less vibration than all the other die grinders in our studio. I think the other person must have bought a lemon. My grinder is the envy of all my cohorts, and I would not trade it for anything.
