Harbor Freight - ok- We all know they have gotten better quality merchandise & their Impacts have as well. Price wise alone they are the hands down winner of that dog fight. - Quality Matters though - and this set by IR is light years beyond HF's.

The size is far more exact- none (as in ZERO) rounding off of fastener corners thanks to the recessed corners (Flank Drive)on these IR sockets. Fit and Finish is nice -though I admire the hi gloss and clear labeling - I fully expect to see that fade with use and abuse. But the quality of the sockets as tough to beat. -Craftsmen set will run you practically double this price & equal or below quality standard.

Snap-on and MAC are excellent - just more money than most want to part w/ any given day.

i like the cases (purchased Metric & SAE) though have no room or use for it in my box. I would certainly advise any technician to strongly consider these before investing in the Tool Truck du jour payroll.

These are great sockets. I highly recommend ingersoll rand's series of air tools. The markings are easy to read, the case is strong, and of course the impact sockets are unbreakable.

I have used different impact sets, but this set works great and I LOVE the big clear labels on the sockets. Has not even begun to wear off, but maybe it will eventually, but the marks seem etched in and not on surface. Makes working that much faster not having to squint at what size is what. Box is good, but bulky. The could have made a smaller box for sure, but it works and is solid with nice metal latches not just some plastic latch that will fail. For the price this is a great deal, I'm here looking for more IR socket accessories given the experience with these sockets.

The quality of these sockets is great, as many other reviewers have said. Nice design and easy to read.

And yes the case is ridiculously huge. Chucked it and put the sockets on a Craftsman socket rail.

My only complaint is with IR's choice of sizes. You get 10mm-19mm, 21mm, 22mm, 26mm, and 27mm.

10mm is not necessary with a 1/2" drive impact set. That's a small bolt or nut, and you shouldn't need a 1/2" gun to remove it.

11mm is a size I've never needed in 40+ years of using tools. I've never seen a bolt or nut of that size.

The glaring omission, and what cost this set one star, is the absence of a 24mm socket. Really? That's like omitting a 14mm or 17mm. I ended up getting a Stanley Proto J7424M 6 Point 1/2" Drive Impact Socket, 24mm to complete the set (great socket but very expensive.)

These are well made sockets, clearly marked with big markings, but why not also engraved??

The case they come in is huge, and not a problem if you have a giant tool box with plenty of space to hold the case. For most, space is a premium, so a 1/2" socket rack is the better option.

My biggest problem, is that they are not engraved. The painted on coating and markings will in time wear off and become illegible. For me, I only got this set in metric. My sae set is proto, which are engraved. If I had all ir sockets, then in the future after all the markings have worn off, figuring out how to put them away after a heated frustrating repair which left me with a pile of tools all mixed up, that would be a problem. Now what, measure each socket with calipers, one at a time, then put them away one at a time?

Update 10/19/13
After having these for just over a year I can see the painted on markings are very tough and going to be less a problem than I anticipated. Years later if I were using certain sizes very frequently in tight quarters I can see the markings wearing off.

Fit and finish is good and they've performed perfectly. If I had to do it again I'd get something engraved.

I agree with the other reviews: these are only average quality sockets in far too big a case. the big issues I have, however, came as a surprise when we were working on our car in the middle of the night and the 10mm socket was slipping. It turns out that it's completed mis-marked and not 10mm at all! We compared it to our 10mm *deep* socket and the mis-marked one is much too big. I next went to the Ingersoll-Rand website to try to find contact information for their customer support departement which was impossible to find on their horribly complex site--I couldn't find it. I have had good experience with other Ingersoll-Rand products, but this issue (and the inability to find a customer support contact at I-R), has convinced me to switch to another more reliable brand going forward.

There's not a lot to add to the description and other reviews, but to say what value this set appears to be. I was placing an order for an Ingersoll-Rand 2130 1/2-Inch Heavy-Duty Air Impact Wrench, my first impact wrench and needed a set of sockets (Do NOT use sockets with an impact wrench that are not made specifically as impact sockets at they may shatter with the hammering.) I didn't want to spend more time on the internet making comparisons, and just intended to pick up a 12-piece metric set at Sears. As I checked out on Amazon, this 14-piece was suggested. Hmmmm. It was half the price of the smaller Craftsman set. It was Ingersoll-Rand, and I believed them to be very reputable. I made sure that it had the sizes I needed for lugs on the family car and family truckster. I'd be dumb not to order it, take the time to drive across town, fight my way into the mall and spend twice as much plus tax to get the smaller Craftsman set, so I ordered this set.

The set arrived today. I intend to post pictures in the next couple of days. Like another reviewer said, the size of the case IS ridiculous. It's not even that there is space for additional sockets. There is just a lot of "padding" space around the two rows of sockets. I do have this to say, though. The latches are actual hinges, and not just flexing plastic that will eventually break off with use. Also, to complete my comparison, the Craftsman set doesn't come with a case at all.

Other than that, I have to problems to report with the product. The sockets all appeared to be well-made with an excellent, consistent finish. Time will tell how they hold up, but I didn't want to hold off reviewing them for another 100 years or so to see.
