5.0 out of 5 stars Wow; I'm impressed!, October 19, 2009
By
J. Turner (BFT, SC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Inglesina Zippy Stroller with Saccottino, Ink (Baby Product)
There is a serious lack of reviews and availability in stores of this stroller, particularly given how absolutely fabulous it is. As the previous reviewer stated, it is darn close to perfect. 4.5 stars, if possible.

You could call me a collector of strollers. This is my 5th stroller in my son's mere 7 month life... I have been on a quest for the perfect stroller. Actually, no "ONE" stroller like that exists, because if you are a runner or beachgoer (I am both), you will always need that jogging stroller, and in order to be functional, they are never going to be practical for putting in your trunk and whipping them open with one hand. Just can't be done.

Okay, so the Inglesina Zippy: WAY, WAY, WAY better than any Maclaren. I own a Mac Quest Sport and while it is small and easy, it simply lacks so many of the things that this stroller has. Bumper bar and snack tray, higher handles, better center of gravity, better seat position (if you want to roll it up next to a table or something), way better padding, quality of materials, suspension, basket that can actually be used/accessed, wheels (yes, they are larger, but they are SO much better!), pretty much the whole package. If you are going to spend $$$ on an umbrella stroller, this would be a much better buy in my opinion. I am particularly fond of the wheels-- they handle cracks and curbs incredibly well, and the stroller can still be steered with one hand. Amazing. The canopy alone makes this stroller worth the extra $ if you live anywhere there is sun, wind, rain, or snow (which would be everywhere). The canopy can COMPLETELY cover baby if needed-- a must for my fair skinned, red haired boy.

I am really impressed with this stroller. I was skeptical to buy it, because I could not find one to "test drive" anywhere and online return policies are always a PITB, but we will definitely be keeping this. I like it, and so does my husband-- that is incredible, because his wants/needs in a stroller are vastly different, since he stands 6'3" and I am a mere 5'2".

That being said, the fold is a bit large, as far as I'm concerned. Weight is still well within managable, but it doesn't fold up as small and tight as a Mac is going to. I own a 2007 Corolla and while it fits comfortably in the trunk (1/2 size of jog stroller), it probably takes up as much room as 2 Macs. And the harness leaves a little to be desired, because my large 7 month old is on the tightest setting, and while he seems safe enough, he can easily free his arms if he wants. I suppose if you have a smaller baby, you can use this with an infant car seat to remedy that issue. The "one hand fold" they talk up is good, but it's no better than a Mac. However, the standing fold is a plus, but you must lock the front wheels.

Overall, fantastic product. Why, oh why, can't it be found in more retail locations? Highly recommend this. Quality is much better than a Mac-- more like the old school Peg Peregos (the quality has gone down in recent years, IMO). This may be the only stroller that will actually make it through my son's stroller years, based on the quality of craftsmanship (otherwise, I think you can expect to replace them every year if you use them like I do).

And here's a hint: if you shop around online, you can find last year's model (no "boot" included, but if you live in a warmer climate, how often are you going to use it anyways?) at a substantial savings from another online baby retailer, and more colors too. I only paid $280 for mine, free shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars As close to perfect as you can get!!, June 2, 2009
This is the best all-around stroller that I have found. It has a true 1-hand fold, convenience of a umbrella stroller with the features of a full size. The fabric is beautiful and easy to clean. I own the Biscotto color and it is richer in person than the pictures. The seat easily reclines (almost flat)with one hand. The basket is only accesible from the sides but it is not a big deal as it is very roomy. The new telescoping and rotating handles are great for parents of different heights. The cupholder is not the largest but it holds most drinks and is a bonus as most European strollers do not have one. There is a child snack/drink tray that is removeable which I love. This one of the features that was a must for me. I recently got rid of my Bugaboo Cameleon because it is the most inconvenient, over-priced stroller.(No child snck tray, cupholder that is easily tipped over if you run into something, must be taken apart to fold, hard to unfold (always hurt my shin), weird drawstring bag for a basket, I could go on but I won't). I have had many strollers and I am on baby #4 and I can honestly say I have found a stroller that is near perfect!!! I also love the fact that it will accomodate a Graco Snugride infant seat ( a favorite of mine even over the pricier Peg Perego (owned both and got rid of the Peg). I am planning on ordering the basinette for the new one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best stroller for daily use, travel, form and function, December 14, 2009
We've owned our Zippy for 5.5 years and the company clearly listens to the market as the improvements offered in the latest version resolve any of our concerns with our stroller. We used this stroller daily, traveled around the country with it from the time our boys were infants until 3 or 4 years old.

It is the THE BEST combination of portability, structural soundness and ease of use. You really can close, open and lift this stroller with one hand - my wife is 5'4" and has no problems. Both of my sisters had the option to have this stroller and choose McLarens - I don't understand why - ours is easier to use, is slightly heavier but not enough to make up for the difference in use. I also hate the way the mclaren, when folded, puts the wheels next to where your child's head rests - that is just gross - you roll thru all kinds of stuff and then fold it so that material is transferred near your child's head? YUCK! The Zippy also can stand by itself when folded - mclaren?

The materials are high quality, it is sturdy, safe offers the best combination of a full size stroller (seat back fully reclines, accepts a wide variety of infant seats, full sun shade, larger wheels that navigate better than the ones with smaller wheels, seat height puts kids higher so they are less likely to get bumped and have a better view) and the transportability of a light-weight (lighter weight, quick to fold and release).

Our issues with our model - no cup holder, short handles - have both been resolved since we bought ours 5 years ago, which just proves that the company listens to their customers and the market.

The biggest problem with this stroller is that it is hard to find and so you can't do a hands-on comparison but there are great deals on it online. It's a great stroller that only suffers because of its limited distribution channels.
