An interesting life, cut short,

This review is from: Ingrid Pitt: Darkness Before Dawn (Paperback)
This is Ingrid Pitt's account of her own life. She provides a decent chronology, starting right from birth. She did not have an easy life at all. The first few chapters are especially difficult to get through, since she spent a number of years in a Nazi concentration camp. Still, over the course of Ingrid's life, she had a lot of good things going for her, and she often shows her appreciation about this. She definitely compensated for such a tragic beginning.
Ingrid is intelligent, sophisticated, and she writes well. If you are looking for a behind-the-scenes 'tell all' book with scandals and exploits, then this is NOT for you. Rather, this describes a life full of challenges and adventure. I think Ingrid gives a fairly honest appraisal of her assets and deficits. She did not think she was the most stunning or best actress in the world, but she does know that she was good enough to get serious parts. She is also able to make fun of herself, which is a sign of humility. I recommend this book, especially for anyone who loves the Hammer horror films. If you ever wondered what some of these actors and actresses were really like behind all their makeup and fangs, then this is valuable reading. |
