excellent death metal,

My favorite LS album, which is saying a lot, since everything I've heard by them has been excellent. Part of the reason I like this one so much is that it's death metal, while their more recent stuff is a little more metal-core. It reminds me a little of the German band Atrocity-- technical death metal with a very dark atmosphere. There's something indefinable about the way the music is played that makes it stand out from the hordes. When I listen to it, I can't really pick out what it is that makes the music so good-- some of the arrangements are well-done, with some complexity and originality, but it goes beyond that. I guess it's talent--this album just oozes talent.

Indisputable kings of heaviness. Best of the 90's.,

It's nice to see this band gaining new fans as time goes by. My friends and I were enjoying this band in 1990 in high school. That said, it is important for people to understand the major changes that have taken place in this band. The first self-titled disc sounds exactly like Slayer-even better. The second disc delves more into death-metal and this third disc, Inhabit, is, and probably will remain one of the heaviest works of music ever recorded. Everyone talks about the vocals on this disc. I'm not sure what many of you have been listening to. The very first time I played this album in 1994 I immediately thought "Napalm Death!" The vocals are very similar to ND's vocals and the music is often similar. This disc fits in nicely between ND's later stuff and Cannibal Corpse-ish type stuff. Very intense, often very fast, and very tight. This disc was produced by the 'Trauma Team'-which is actually two members of the now defunct thrash band Believer. I don't understand the criticisms of this disc. Tell me if you've ever heard anything more intense than 'Darkened' or 'Indwelling'? Don't get me wrong, I love the new stuff too (more Pantera-ish), but THIS is where LS made a name for themselves. By the way, the original cover and insert had much better art than this reissue. A must for metal fans.

Great LS cd and a nice change from their others.,

I had heard from some people that this cd wasn't all that great becuase of the vocal style and that seems to be the big divide that makes people either love it or hate it. When I got it I expected the vocals to be the usual death metal style(ex.Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, etc...) but was surprised to hear that they were different. To me the vocals sound great as do the grinding guitars, bass, and pounding drums. I enjoy this style of LS more than their later sound and think that they did a great job with trying death metal. Anyways this is a must buy for LS fans and for others who dig some great metal.

One Of The Better LS cds,
By A Customer

Very good cd. This cd would sell in the secular world as well. Very brutal drumming and nice guitarwork. This cd has a little bit of the Slayer influence still there that was in the first cd and a little bit of the more Obituary-like Nonexistant (got nothing on obituary tho)... This cd is strictly Death metal with a touch of Doom. They put extra hard work on this cd. It is their most brutal and technical work they have released. My favorite LS cd. All the tracks are solid. The vocals fit the music well in my opinion...we dont need any Chris Barnes vocals here. And no this cd smears any of the stuff Crimson Thorn puts out. It is refreshing to hear a solid Christian Metal album. Nowadays the Christian metal scene lacks originality...and is all corish. Stick to this cd, Believer, Extol, Tourniquet,Paramaecium, Deliverance, Saviour Machine, Virgin Black, Slechtvalk, Horde, Kekal, and Vengeance Rising.

Man, oh, Man! Heavy and God Inspiring Crunchfest!,

This is my first Living Sacrifice album. Man, I had no idea about these guys. The first awesome thing is the recording quality! Excellent...very crisp and clear...extreme clarity! That is so important with heavy music like this. The guitarists, and especially the drummer are absolutely outstanding. They play melodic, groovy, and speedfreaky! All with no mistakes. And their amp tones are marvelous. One thing that sticks out the most is their blatant Christian lyrics, which is sort of hard to find in this style of Christian music. I really think that that takes 'gonads' and earns my highest respects. I'd have to put this album up there with Extol's 'Burial' as the best Christian Death Metal put out recently!

tight grind/death,

This CD is insane. Remember the days of tight, twin guitar attack, double-bass, and blast beats--these guys are incredible musicians. The vocals are thick and powerful, as are the lyrics.Emotionally powerful and fierce. They can open with a death blast beat and then break it down with a almost hardcore-like punch-me-in-the-face rhythm. They are simply INSANE! Buy this record. The End.

Another knockout!,

Living Sacrifice definetely made an improvement from Nonexistant. The vocals are more defined and their sound has come that much closer to perfection. If you started with Reborn, and you like it, I would definetely suggest this album. Or if you started from the beginning, or whatever.

Not the Best,
By
This review is from: Inhabit (Audio CD)
As someone mentioned earlier I must be apart of the LS bandwagon as he called it. I see it more apart of the good music bandwagon. When I was introduced to LS I heard the rerelease of Reborn and loved it. From there I got Inhabit and did not like it much. Musically the CD is good, but I don't like the vocals really at all. DJ does not have the power or intensity that makes a good screamer. After I heard this CD I got Hammering Process and Conceived in Fire and love them both. I will not buy another CD with DJ on it because it's just not as good as recent LS. Being original does not make you good!!!

My first death metal album,

This cd led me to find and love the genre of death metal. You see I was looking for EastWest's Hope In Anguish cd at my local Lifeway store but they didn't have it. I was about to leave until I saw this album and The Hammering Process cd at the lower left hand corner of the shelf. This one was 9.99 and the other 16.99, I wanted to get them both but could only buy one, so I got T.H.P. disk. I thought that since that was more expensive it was probably better than the other(how ignorant was I!). Later I did some research on Inhabit, and listen to some sound clips and was blown away! Doing further research, I found out this was death metal and looked up a bunch of stuff about it(mostly on here at Amazon so thank you Tom Servo and others who took thier time to write about this genre through guides, album reviews, etc.)and come to love both the genre and this cd. Also, since I headed into heavy metal without knowing much about it besides bands like Korn, Metallica, Tool, Marilyn Manson, etc., I had no problems with the vocals or the heaviness or the genre itself(death metal).
Now that have finished my manifesto, lets look at the album itself. I've heard a lot of complaints about DJ's vocals but I realy don't care because I like his vocals on the first three cd's also espelialy Nonexistenet. I know this isn't the most heavy or technical death metal but it does a good job on both. So if you are a newbie into Christian metal, death metal, or just tired of what is put out by Mtv, get this album and don't worry about the naysayers.
