The Fresson Printing Process,
By turbulence (new york) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inherit the Earth (Hardcover)
The other reviewer is ignorant of the very rarefied printing process that Metzner, one of the very few photographers in the States, has been privileged enough to utilize. It does produce a very painterly effect, and has been a closely guarded family secret for a century or more. Metzner is also noted for her exquisite ability to capture light and was thus awarded the distinguished Cannon camera "Explorers of Light" award.
The reviewer should educate himself.

This review is from: Inherit the Earth (Hardcover)
I CAN'T QUARREL WITH THE BEAUTY OF MOST OF THESE COMPOSITIONS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME UNINTERESTING RAIN FOREST IMAGES, BUT WHY IS THE TECHNICAL QUALITY SO POOR? IF YOU LIKE GRAIN, THERE'S ENOUGH OF IT HERE TO DELIGHT YOU. BLURRY, IMPRESSIONISTIC (SORT OF) IMAGES THAT MAKE ME THINK MY GLASSES NEED ADJUSTMENT OR CLEANING. IF THE PHOTOGRAPHER DID THIS ON PURPOSE, WELL I JUST DON'T GET IT. A LARGER FORMAT CAMERA OR A LESS GRAINY FILM LIKE FUGI VELVIA WOULD HAVE MADE THESE PHOTOGRAPHS STUNNING, AND THIS BOOK A TREASURE. YOU CAN FIND IT USED VERY CHEAP IF YOU'RE CURIOUS. OTHERWISE AVOID IT.
