After being estranged from her family for the past seven years Isabella Joubert goes home to Florida to visit her father on his deathbed. His last words before dying were that he wanted her to have a disk and where to find it. Isabella is confused but retrieves the mysterious disk.

A week later, back in Chicago, Isabella finds what the disk really is. A list of names. Names of people who her father bribed. Immediately Isabella plans to turn the disk over to the FBI, but then she notices the name of her ex-lover Sandro Marchese.

Dismayed by her discovery, Isabella is more than determined to turn the disk over to the authorities. But before Belle has a chance her house is broken into, her neighbor is murdered and she is on the run, all because somebody wants that disk. In desperation Belle is forced to turn to Sandro to help save her brother and her own life.

Jasmine Cresswell has once again written a fast paced, exciting read. Although not as exciting as The Disappearance or The Daughter, The Inheritance is sure to please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, April 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Inheritance (Mass Market Paperback)
I've enjoyed Cresswell's paranormal books in the past and only recently discovered that she writes suspense fiction as well. I found The Inheritance hard to put down, not just because I wanted to know what happened next, but also because I was interested in the moral dilemma faced by the heroine, Isabella Joubert. She loves her father, but knows he's a criminal. She loves her sister and brother, but can't trust either of them. It's almost inevitable that she will also fall in love with a man she isn't sure she can trust. Add this complex family background to a romance and a suspenseful mystery and you have a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great work of romantic suspense, January 27, 2000
This review is from: Inheritance (Mass Market Paperback)
After learning that her father Marc Joubert sold weapons to terrorists and rogues as the major income maker of the family export firm, Isabella leaves her Miami home. She settles in Chicago and has almost no contact with her family for the next seven years. However, she returns to Miami when she learns Marc is dying because, though she abhors what he has done, she loves her father. On his deathbed, Marc obtains a vow from Isabella that she handles a disk that contains the names of everyone he bribed over the years.

Soon Isabella finds her life in turmoil. Her neighbor is murdered and her home is trashed as if someone was looking for something. However, the biggest impact is the return of Customs Agent Sandro Marchese, the man she loved who betrayed her by selling out to her father. Sandro insists he wants to protect her from her father's many associates who want that disk. However, the disk contains evidence that would place him in jail. When her brother is kidnapped, Isabella knows that Sandro is her only hope to rescue her sibling and keep herself alive. As their love for one another rekindles, neither one trusts the other.

THE INHERITANCE is a fast-paced, action-packed romantic intrigue that never slows down to let the reader catch his/her breath. The story line is filled with excitement, sexual tension, and danger. Isabella and Sandro make a charming but seemingly doomed couple whose relationship cannot form without the fundamentals of trust. Jasmine Cresswell entertains the audience with a non-stop romantic thriller.

This was one of those books I couldn't put down! The misunderstandings between Sandro and Belle were heart breaking. They loved each other but were unable to trust each other. I can't wait to read Marisa's story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Betrayal to the fullest extent, November 12, 2003

This review is from: Inheritance (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow, you want to know betrayal then read this book. Poor Belle, she thought she finally got away from her melodramatic family only to be thrown right back into the fold after her dying father intrusts her with a CD-ROM. Belle thought it would be simple as just turning it over to the proper authorities at the right time. She knew that she had a valuable well sought after disk, but she didn't think kidnappings would take place or dead bodies would show up. Great read, i highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Inheritance, January 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Inheritance (Mass Market Paperback)
Like all of Cresswell's books, "The Inheritance" has an intricate plot, lots of suspense, and complex and unique characters. Cresswell is a master at establishing reasons for her characters to be apart, then pulling everything together in a grand finale. "The Inheritance" is definitely one of Cresswell's best!

Crisswell's plot takes us into the shady world of illegal arms trading. Growing up knowing that her privileged life came as a result of someone else's misfortune, Belle rejects her father and his business.
On his deathbed, Belle's father passes onto her a disk that contains information that would put a great many high profile people behind bars. Belle finds herself not knowing whom to trust. Long time corrupt employees seek this information and the profit it could bear. Full of action.

5.0 out of 5 stars captivating!, July 6, 2000
This review is from: Inheritance (Mass Market Paperback)
i really enjoyed this book because i never knew which way it was going to go. the family conflict between the characters was so realistic you felt like you were caught in the middle. the book is filled with just enought red herrings to keep you utterly confused as to who the real culprit actually is. i've read quite a few of jasmine cresswell's books and i enjoyed this one just as much as the others. i can't wait to read another of her books!

This was my second book by Jasmine Cresswell and I enjoyed it but not as much as The Disappearance. There were times when the book read too slowly but after the halfway point the book was fascinating. Mixed reviews on this one.
