Book Description

December 2009 Thorndike Christian Historical Fiction

An unexpected inheritance. An unknown future. An unending love.

Determined to tame her younger brother's rebellious streak, McKenna Ashford accepts her cousin's invitation to move west, and to begin again. But she quickly discovers that life in Copper Creek, Colorado, is far from what she expected. Shouldering burdens beyond her years, McKenna tries to be the parent Robert needs, instead of the older sister he resents. But an "untimely inheritance" challenges her resolve at every turn, while also offering a second chance to restore her sense of trust-and perhaps even her heart.

U.S. Marshal Wyatt Caradon is dedicated to bringing fugitives to justice, yet years of living on the trail have taken their toll. When his path intersects with that of McKenna, he comes face-to-face with a past he never wanted to relive-and the one woman who can help him find the future he's been longing for.

As McKenna struggles to let go of her independence and Wyatt considers opening his heart again, they discover an inheritance beyond imagination. But it will come at a price.

Tamera's The Inheritance, the 2010 RITA Award winner and 2010 Christy Award finalist, was the first historical for the Women of Faith Fiction line. Tamera's deeply drawn characters, thought-provoking plots, and poignant prose continue to earn devoted readers--and multiple industry awards.

Her books have also garnered the 2011 Booksellers Best Award, the 2010 HOLT Medallion, the 2010 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence, the International Readers Choice Award, and top praise from the Library Journal, among other accolades. Tamera takes steps closer to the Lord as she writes, and her greatest hope is for readers to take steps closer to Him as they read. She enjoys staying connected with readers and invites you to keep in touch through the contact page on her website listed below or through facebook and twitter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Tamera Alexander!, February 18, 2009
I've read all Tamera Alexander's books, so when I saw this one on the shelf, I snatched it up. I do believe it's her best yet. McKenna Ashton and her young brother set off for Copper Creek, Colorado after losing everything because of her brother's gambling debts.
She is an expert saddle maker and finds work doing just that but Robert continues to be a problem. She meets US Marshall Wyatt Caradon, who knows from experience that Robert needs tough love. McKenna longs to feel free from all the anxieties she suffers when Robert gets into one scrape after another. Wyatt has already fallen for her, but she is determined not to care for him.
I won't spoil the plot for those who haven't read it, but the theme of God's love and His protection are awesome. The prayer Wyatt prays over Robert, "Break him, Lord, until he's wholly Thine" is one all Christians should pray daily. If we can stand it.
Don't miss this book for you will be blessed for reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alexander fast becoming best historical writer today!!!, April 8, 2009
I just finished the Inheritance by Tamera Alexander and had to share with you how much I loved it. I'm not surprised how well it was written, since I've read other books by this author. I wasn't even surprised how the author took me right into the setting and left me there for the whole story. Nope. Wasn't surprised at all. Not since Alexander has become my favorite new Historical fiction writer. This newest book was the icing on the cake. Something I love about her writing is that it's historical without being unrealistic.

Sometimes I read historicals and think, really? They really acted like that. Never once did anything improper or out of character. It seems untrue to human nature to think that just because a christian person was born in the 1800's they never did anything "unchristian" or questionable. Tamera paints a real picture. A human picture. I could easily imagine the premise of this book happening. I love her stories so much, I wish they'd make them into a television series. I'd watch it. :)

Overall, rich, vivid characters, and a beautiful setting. Throw in the faith element and you have a wonderful read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read with a Message, March 22, 2009
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Inheritance". There were so many angles to the "inheritance" concept and it was great to read a well-written, well-researched book that encourages the reader (me) to sit back and also take note of the inheritance I have received through my walk of faith in Christ Jesus. Learning brokenness, faith, and rest through troubled times ... an inheritance I can certainly stand to receive!

Tamera Alexander's writing style was pleasant reading. I was pleased with the storyline, the relationships drew me in and made putting the book down difficult, and I loved the balance she obtained by McKenna's severe independance yet desperate need for DEPENDANCE. Wyatt is the perfect hero and is a great picture of a Godly leader.

If I had to critique anything, I'd say it was too short. And, I don't mean that patronizingly. I would have loved to have the book a little thicker and a little longer so Tamera Alexander could have spread the story even further =0)

Totally worth the money to add this to your library!
