Editorial Reviews

Click Here For Trailer Anyone can drive fast. Only one driver can be the fastest. It takes nerve, skill, and the right car - and Takumi's got all three. His rep as a dominating downhill racer is growing, but when he's invited to drive for an all-star team that could change the face of local racing, Takumi's got to beat his stiffest competition before he'll join their ranks - himself. With graduation approaching, his classmates drift toward uncertain futures. For Takumi, looking ahead means putting as many challengers in his rearview mirror as he can. If he can prove to himself that he's ready, the next stage is waiting, and it's all downhill from here.

For that reason alone, it's worth every penny.

I am still trying to get use to them, but I feel that it not the same.

They claim that the DVD is 16:9 and it is not, it's 4:3 widescreen.

I've been through two Chinese bootleg copies of Initial D Third Stage, so buying a legit version of it as soon as it was released was a safe bet. The picture quality is great (I've watched it multiple times already), and the English voiceover cast already blows the Tokyopop Initial D cast out of the water. This is Initial D as it was meant to be. No ridiculous changes to the dialogue or plot. No cheesy music replacing the actual soundtrack. No awful visual effects that serve no purpose. For that reason alone, it's worth every penny. If you're an Initial D fan, support the cause. FUNimation is doing a good thing for us.

This movie (and its a movie, not a collection of episodes) is a little different than the first 2 stages, and the voice acting is different, but its still good and keeps the story going. all in all, a good purchase if you like the initial d series.

This is not a condemnation of the movie itself which is fantastic. This is to warn people who care about such things that Funimation is flat out lying on their DVD boxes. They claim that the DVD is 16:9 and it is not, it's 4:3 widescreen. Instead of filling the entire screen or even having black bars on the top and bottom, I have black bars on all four sides of the screen and it makes it useless to watch this on a large TV. I never would've bought this if I had known what was in store for me after I popped it into my player.

This is finally the way Initial D should have been released initially. The voice actors are well chosen (with one or two exceptions) and the producers didn't take out the original music/try to "Americanize" it.

Well worth the buy for any fan of the series. It's finally time to lift the boycott.

We can feel blessed with the release of 3rd and 4th stage of INITIAL D, one of my favorite anime of all time.

This OVA resolves so much of the conflicts that happened in 2nd stage and its an amazing prelude to 4th stage. The plot is all about the development of TAKUMI as a street racer, he is invited by RYOSUKE TAKAHASHI to form a special street racing team called PROJECT D, a scout team that will compete in every prefecture in Japan and set a new record for the track, all in less than one year; writing a new street racing legend all over Japan.

TAKUMI still feels insecure about his abilities and decides to look for KYOUICHI SUDOU in Irohazaka pass, leader of the TEAM EMPEROR and the only driver that has beaten TAKUMI on a race. That race and a new challenge from the son of a former rival of TAKUMI's father, BUNTA; will set the pace of an incredible race.

Also resolved are the problems between TAKUMI and NATSUKI, balancing the action with a little bit of drama and romance.

The quality of the DVD is good, and the video is LETTERBOXED (4:3 aspect ratio with black bars to simulate widescreen), not true WIDESCREEN; something that i really disliked because the picture would looked great on my TV set.

Even with this little detail, the DVD is worth its price.

First, I want to start off by saying that I a huge fan of the series. Why the reason for the low score? Dont know if I got a bad copy of a DVD, but the picture suck!! I saw small lines going up and down the screen through out the entire movie!! That really piss me off cause I am seen the Jap. version and I don't remember all these lines in it. Secondly, they change the english voice actors. I am still trying to get use to them, but I feel that it not the same. The 86 driver voice, he doesn't put the same emotion or firer, like the old voice. I don't feel the connect to well. I also got the 4th Stage Eng. The picture it much cleaner and no lines, so I would rate that 4 out of 5.

If you can get pass through two things, then it is really a good movie. Thats my honest feelings. I wish funumation would have done a better job in releasing this last piece of the series.

It keeps with the story for the most part but the emotional feel of the characters and their relationships change completely with the voice actors. Tak is no longer as reserved and Iggy (Itsuki) is not the same spaz he was before. I could see how some people might like the changes but for me it was too abrupt. Also the names of the characters revert to the original Japanese names which might be confusing for some if you've only watched the english translations of Stgs 1&2 w/ no subs. I found it fine because I like to read both the translated english dialogue and listen to the english audio. Still worth a watch if you're into the series or just into cars. A plus was that they kept the original Japanese music for once otherwise I'd have given it 2 stars.
