5.0 out of 5 stars Racing~
Finally our Tak drove the race!
I don't want to spoil your experience, so I'm not gonna say who won the race..^^;
This volume contains one battle and one test racing.. All were greatly described and so intense. I love it.
There are one more challenger to Tak.. He drove GTR!
I can't wait to watch GTR vs. 86..

1.0 out of 5 stars Tokyopop is a disgrace--avoid volume 2 and above
I thought for certain the editing and Americanization of manga was over. Everything was fine with Tokyopop's new 100% manga line--even the first volume of Initial D. Then comes along this travesty courtesy of the "geniuses" at Tokyopop. The names have all been changed in this volume, even though the first volume had the correct names. The translation is...

The translation is nowhere near correct--you could black out the word bubbles and make up your own story and come out with a better translation than has been provided here. The disregard for the fans is flat out disgusting, and I will not be buying any more Initial D manga or anime until Tokyopop decides to correct their errors.

Please avoid this release and spread the word to anyone else who might be interested in this series. If you really love Initial D or any kind of anime/manga, you'll agree this kind of censorship cannot be tolerated. (Especially when labeled 100% authentic! What happened to truth in advertising laws!?)

1.0 out of 5 stars Not 100% Authentic Manga, July 11, 2002

Tokyopop has decided to falsely label this in their authentic manga series. This volume is NOT that. They have changed the characters names, even after using the original names in volume 1. Authentic, my foot! Support manga! But do not buy Initial D in this format. 100% isn't part of the time, Tokyopop!

5.0 out of 5 stars Takumi Goes Into Action vs. Keisuke, May 9, 2005

After all the buildup in the last half of Book 1, Takumi finally takes part in his first official, formal street race. The scene where he first arrives and steps out of the car is both cool and funny. Takumi goes up against Keisuke Takahashi who drives a Mazda RX-7 and the race is superbly drawn and told. The English translation edit is spotty and there are many typos in the text descriptions at the beginning of the book. But overall, it is still a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not so bad, June 6, 2003

By reading the other reviews, you would probably believe that Initial D was a medoicre anime for borrowing from a friend or reading in a bookstore. However, I think that these reviewers are being to specific with their problems. Sure, they changed a lot of the names of the characters to english. So what? Some of us like to read names we can relate to. So they messed up the translation? I didn't see anything wrong with the one in this book. The animation is excelent, although it is a style unlike other mangas, and the story is creative and interesting. I enjoyed Initial D, and If you don't care about perfect translations and other picky things, check this one out. Oh, and if you DO care about the translations and names, just import it. It's worth it.
