Now you can work, play, and enjoy a wealth of digital entertainment--including vivid DVD movies and video feeds from DTV receivers--from a compact and stylish flat-panel television. Initial's DTV-232 combination LCD TV and slot-loading DVD player doubles as a computer monitor. The set's 23-inch, anti-glare screen is configured in a 16:9 aspect ratio to closely match the original frame dimensions of your favorite feature films. A handy media port accepts streaming media via USB 1.1 connection and also reads image files off SD, MMC, and Memory Stick flash-memory.

The DVD player offers shuffle and program play modes, and it spins JPEG image CDs and Kodak Picture CDs in additional DVD-Video discs. Additional DVD features include zoom/shrink playback (2x, 3x, 4x; 1/2x, 1/3x, 1/4x) fast forward and reverse playback (2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 16x, 32x), frame-by-frame playback, and a screen saver/power-saving function. The player's firmware is upgradeable.

Connect additional components via 2 composite-video inputs or the unit's HD-compatible component-video inputs. For your PC, you get a standard RGB analog (15-pin D-Sub). Composite- and S-video outputs let you pass a video signal to a digital video recorder or VCR.

The set's built-in left/right speakers are powered by 6 watts each. A digital-audio output passes both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals to compatible processors and multichannel speaker systems so you can enjoy spacious, enveloping surround sound with your movies, concerts, and DTV programming.

There's standard analog RCA audio outputs, too, which let you take advantage of the unit's ability to decode audio from HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital) compact discs. HDCD is a 20-bit encoding method used on many commercial CDs to deliver better sound than is possible through standard CDs. A headphone jack affords private or late-night listening without disturbing others.

I received this as a gift from my brother last Christmas. My wife and I have it in our bedroom for evening viewing. Some evenings we just shut down the house and tuck into the bedroom for quiet viewing and relaxing.

The tv is nice looking. Right out of the box it was easy to set up and once you read the instructions one time the controls are easy. When switching from one format to another, like dvd to tuner, you have to choose the format from a button on the remote and quickly push your selection, otherwise the menu disappears within seconds.

You can adjust the picture from standard box format to wide screen to cinema. We use standard tv width most of the time and switch to widescreen for dvd's. Another cool thing is I read closed captioning and you can change the background of the closed caption from black to clear, so it barely interrupts with the picture.

When playing DVD's there's a soft wooshing sound from the internal player, once you switch back to tuner the sound is gone. Not too annoying since the movie is usually louder than the fan noise.

One thing we didn't like too much is the power supply is three pronged, and our bedroom is two pronged outlets. We converted one wall socket to accomodate the plug but wished it would have just been two pronged. Another thing: the cord to the large power supply "brick" is about two feet of cable from the tv. So, we have the tv on a tall bureau, and the power supply hangs and pulls on the cable and I'm afraid eventually it will wear out the plug from the weight.

We both love this tv and use it nearly every night. Picture is beautiful and it plays dvd's perfectly. One other small gripe is as with most multifunction tv's it's hard to find an all in one remote to control the cable box, built in tv tuner, dvd player, and tv controls.

We're probably going to get ourselves the 32" Initial for Christmas for the living room and replace our 27" Sony CRT tv. It's amazing how much more space the lcd's give you over CRT's.

This is a good investment. Highly recommended!
