5.0 out of 5 stars La Brigitte!
So Camille Javal picked a wicked name, became a famous model, actress and vocalist. This set is great and features all the songs she's done, which happen to be great pop songs. Alot of people dismiss her talents, which is a pity. These songs are quite funny and sexy in different ways. Her greatest song is definitely "Harley Davidson" but her version with Serge...

2.0 out of 5 stars yé-yé girl
These are silly songs which are interesting from a pop culture perspective. In France, and much of Europe, the yé-yé girl phenomonen was in vogue during the sixties. Influenced by US and British music scenes, these French women sang to arrangements which included jazz, r&b, folk and miscellaneous pop. Assuredly more photogenic than musically inclined,...

Alot of people dismiss her talents, which is a pity. These songs are quite funny and sexy in different ways. Her greatest song is definitely "Harley Davidson" but her version with Serge Gainsbourg (the earlier one, rather than the Jane Birkin version) of "Je t'aime, moi non plus" is more appealing because there is no english accent but this version is a little off key....still great. All of B.B.'s songs are great!! If one is interested in 60's french pop music....this one's for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars VIVE LA BRIGITTE!, May 8, 2003

Short of taking a trip to Paris, this box set of songs by Brigitte Bardot is the next best thing. I don't speak much French and understand even less. . . but with Brigitte's voice tripping its way through these songs, language is no barrier.
Brigitte was and is and always will remain "Paris and France and the 1960's" -- she is the eternal reminder of a truly happy and romantic and lighthearted time. All I can say is I love this musical collection of a truly 'unique' French and international personality. -- P.S. And she loves animals and animal protection. Thanks Brigitte for everything!

This is such a fantastic, well-rounded collection of BB's recordings, I don't see how anyone can give it anything but 5 stars. Includes a very nice booklet with even nicer photos!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Le charme et l'émotion, May 17, 2006
This review is from: Initiale Bb (Audio CD)

2.0 out of 5 stars yé-yé girl, October 8, 2000
This review is from: Initiale Bb (Audio CD)
These are silly songs which are interesting from a pop culture perspective. In France, and much of Europe, the yé-yé girl phenomonen was in vogue during the sixties. Influenced by US and British music scenes, these French women sang to arrangements which included jazz, r&b, folk and miscellaneous pop. Assuredly more photogenic than musically inclined, they nonetheless, were the rage. Brigitte Bardot (née Camille Javal b.1934) is certainly the most famous, but was not the most successful. That crown goes to Sheila (née Annie Chancel b.1946) who has sold more than 60 million records (astounding!). Françoise Hardy (b. 1941), although not truly in the yé-yé girl category, was very popular at the time, and has sustained popularity in France to this day as a respected writer of hundreds of songs. Bob Dylan makes reference to her in one of his songs. Which brings me, in a circuitous fashion, to Brigitte Bardot. She has more than 50 pop songs to her credit, in addition to her more than 50 film appearances between 1952 and 1975 (more than two a year). Her life was filled with amourous controversy in the 60's, however, after 1973, she retired and dedicated her time to promoting animal rights. With that background, I feel that it is easier for me to appreciate these songs which are quite vapid, actually. I do catch myself smiling at some of the songs. Serge Gainsbourg (1928-1991), who is as controversial as any of the yé-yé girls, arranged the material on this CD as well as the 1968 hit for Bardot "Harley Davidson". SIDONIE combines Bardot's lilting vocals with accoustic guitar and light orchestration. The notes inform that this is from the 1962 film "Vie Privée". The next song, "L'appareil à sous", sounds as though it is straight from a beach movie. Harmonized, Beach Boys style backing vocals with Ventures derived guitars. And so it goes. No musical style is safe. ;D If you are interested in popular French music from the 60's, enjoy silly, fun music or just want to see where the pop chanteuse developed into a market vehicle, this CD will interest you.

BRIGITTE BARDOT was not a much of an actress, not much of a singer. However, she managed to make the best of the two.If BRIGITTE was your boyhood fantasy dream, then this is really for you, because everything is there. The key songs here are the one SERGE GAINSBOURG wrote for her(L'APPAREIL A SOUS , JE ME DONNE A QUI ME PLAIT and BUBBLE GUM were the early ones);all the others(BONNIE AND CYDE, JE T'AIME MOI NON PLUS,CONTACT,HARLEY DAVIDSON and COMIC STRIP were recorded in 1967.Everything else is of doubtfull interest. For the same price, you can go to your nearest zoo twice, and even give food to the seals.
