This review is from: Secret Wisdom of the Great Initiates (Astara's library of mystical classics) (Paperback)
This book provides a good overview and review of three of the most famous Greek philosophers plus a lesser known philosopher named Apollonius.

The author, new age mystic Earlyne Chaney, felt a close relationship with Pythagorus who she felt was her overshadowing 'genie'. Her Astara organization was set up to promote Pythagorus' philosophy.

She mentions the mysterious Essenes who many believe were Jesus Christ's childhood teachers. She says the Essenes considered Pythagorus and Plato to be demigods.

The subject of 'initiation' comes up in all of Earlyne's books that I have read. The Egyptians, Greeks, and other societies practiced some form of initiation where people came into direct contact with the mythological gods and goddesses. The initiates received mystical information which they were sworn to secrecy never to reveal.

Earlyne, Pythagorus, and Plato all supposedly experienced the Egyptian initiation process. The Egyptian form of intitiation is probably the most interesting to study about because it was done inside the pyramids. Those philosophers all recognized Egypt as a source of great wisdom and knowledge and Egypt still holds many secrets for us even now.

This is perhaps why Plato's writings seem rather obscure at times. He may have been trying to explain things in simple terms while having to avoid giving certain details.

Earlyne considers Plato to be the most mystical of the philosophers. As she points out and I agree Plato's writings are not light reading. Earlyne felt that Plato's writings will appeal more to people who have reached a certain level of spiritual evolution.

Earlyne's book 'Initiation In The Great Pyramid' is highly recommended. She was somehow able to remember her past life experiences in Egypt which includes information about the true origins of the Egyptian culture and religion.

The chapter about Apollonius is interesting with his many adventures. Apollonius is presented as a sort of god like figure.
