5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few I read over and over again
This is one of the most inspirational and insightful spiritual books I have ever read. It always cracks me up, because I'll read this book, and then read it again a year later, and I swear that I've never read half the stuff in it -- that's how many details there are in it. And these are mind-blowing details, which is why I can't believe that it feels like I've never seen...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading, almost impossible to verify
I think there is some accurate info here (the made-up Tibetan master name aside). But actually verifying it is challenging. Others I know who have read this agree the material was more likely channeled. The Tibetan name is clearly made up. If you like reading about ascended masters, this is definitely a book for you. I think it's more likely true spiritual teachings...

This review is from: Initiation Human and Solar (Paperback)
This is one of the most inspirational and insightful spiritual books I have ever read. It always cracks me up, because I'll read this book, and then read it again a year later, and I swear that I've never read half the stuff in it -- that's how many details there are in it. And these are mind-blowing details, which is why I can't believe that it feels like I've never seen those points!

If you are interested in the topic of initiation, this book goes into points you've probably never read anywhere else. While reading some sources that speak with this kind of authority you can get turned off; but this is such sincere material, and you can corroborate enough by experience, and it all fits together so well ... you can't help having such an authority to guide you!

To be honest, there is no writer who more inspires me to live as ideally as possible like D.K. can (through this author, Alice Bailey). This was my first introduction to the writer, and still ranks as my favorite (although all his books are wonderful), and despite the fact that I love grasping this information, it is the inspiration that does me more good on my spiritual path than anything else.

I am, by the way, a lover of complex material. In comparison to many of my favorite titles, this one is relatively simple, and I think this simplicity is what makes it so accessible to anyone on the spiritual path.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vastness of Being, February 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Initiation Human and Solar (Paperback)
This book was the first written of the 24 books by Alice Bailey. As such, this book addresses some essential spiritual and esoteric ideas. Its theme is that of initiation, or spiritual crisis--moments of spiritual realisation and evolutionary change. In many ways this theme is the centre and essence of all spiritual study, because the spiritual crises, or initiations, that all beings experience are the great moments of their existence and, in many ways, embody and express the purpose and meaning and quality of that existence.

The book also touches on the life of the disciple (person consciously treading the path) and the two main stages of the spiritual path, the later stage being called the Path of Initiation.

The book contains a fair amount of esoteric and technical detail of the processes whereby initiations are undergone. Whilst these technicalities can be evocative and inspiring to some readers, for those who would not find it so, it nevertheless presents an expansive view of the vastness of Life, and the amazing interconnectedness of, and purpose behind, all things living.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a cornerstone for New Age philosophy., April 22, 1999
This review is from: Initiation Human and Solar (Paperback)
This book adds a truly remarkable insight into the previously stated but obscure theosophical texts on initiation. It is non-sectarian and inclusive of all people in its approach. It seeks to expound facts about human life and in some sense it is a forerunner of many New Age philosophies and groups' belief systems. It is a crucial key for the modern disciple's understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient Teachings, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Initiation Human and Solar (Paperback)
The processes of spiritual enlightenment are outlined in this book even if written with an occassional dogmatic term. This was no doubt due to the consciousness of the times even though the information is ancient and the steps of enlightenment universal. Only a Master could outline such information while keeping the deeper meanings obscured. What meaning a person gives to the phraseology can only be conjucture and is limited by the capacity of the intellect, meanwhile, the imagination runs rampant, hopefully, to open the door to higher intuitional knowing. A very valuable read for those experiencing evolutionary changes in their lives for which they have no reference. It might be said that this book can only be understood years later.....after a person has traversed certain life passages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Initiation Human and Solar, September 10, 2001
This review is from: Initiation Human and Solar (Paperback)
The various stages along the path of initiation are explained in this book. What is initiation? Who initiates? Who is initiated? Surprising answers are available at the hand of Alice Bailey, answers that are not found in traditional, religious texts nor at the foot of pulpits, although the book does conclude with "An esoteric catechism."

These books are excellent! All of Alice Bailey's books are a treasure. Difficult for many to read, but if you have the type of mind that is truly searching for metaphysical truths, this one is a jewel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Theosophy encapsulated, May 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This classic explanation of the complexities that are involved in the Theosophic ritual of Initiation contains information that includes a summary of Theosophic philosophy. Although not "easy" to read, it is certainly more readable than the books by Helen Blavatsky or Ann Bessant. Whether one accepts the existence of Ascended Masters and Light Beings from other planets or realms who control all phases of earthly life, or not, this is worthwhile reading for those who are interested in how the process works (in fact or in theory).

To study any aspect of metaphysics, one must be open to the possibilities that may exist in the non-physical realms. This book contains much information of how initiations are performed in the mystical realms and why it is done in that manner. While reading this book, many gems of insight occurred to me; terms and words of which I was aware but whose meanings escaped me. I feel more knowledgeable now even though I still am not a "believer".

5.0 out of 5 stars Entering the Cosmic Life, August 14, 2009
Alice Bailey...
dear aspirants,
... writes books that are really a slightly Christianized version of Theosophy. This book, nonetheless, is a true revelation and sets the magician thinking beyond this particular life and this solar system. Whether one is a Christian magician, or a follower of Crowley, whether a Satanist or a Chaos magician, this is still a valuable and illuminating book to read and add to one's magical library.

2.0 out of 5 stars Magical mystical tour de farce, November 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What a wonderful, exciting world Alice lived in, though a little racist and Aryan-centric. Nothing mundane about it with gurus and masters and mythological beings all over the place, exercising their benign designs on humanity. Oops, that was just before WWII with tens of millions slaughtered, massive firebombing and the use of nukes. Imagine how bad it would've been without all these masters.
