This volume is designed to give every horse owner the confidence to take an active role in helping their horse when the inevitable scrapes and strains, or more serious injuries occur. In clear, down-to-earth terms, chartered physiotherapist Amanda Stutton passes on her practical experience of diagnosing problems and her knowledge of the way that injuries affect the horse. Using thoroughly explained methods of diagnosis, horse owners can identify problems and take the appropriate steps to begin the healing process. 2.0 out of 5 stars OK for Beginners, February 12, 2008

This is a good "what this is" type of book, rather than an in depth or "how to" book. It does a pretty good job of explaining what things are (like inflammatory and healing responses), but not much in depth. The book really doesn't provide a lot of information about HOW one would go about managing injuries as much as a description of some things you might be able to do and a description of the larger number of things that might be done but, you won't be able to do due to not having the equipment or being a veterinarian, etc. But it does describe them. Tendon and ligament injuries are covered fairly well. Includes a chapter of case studies, which is interesting. The book is from the UK, so a few terms may be unfamiliar.

This is a really handy little book that I would recommend to any horse owner. First time owners in particular will appreciate the well laid out format and clear explainations.

The book is laid out in clearly defined sections that look at such topics as; different practitioners and their approaches, rehabilitation, injury causes and treatments etc. Within each section a wide variety of injuries\treatments are discussed in some detail.

The book itself is aimed at the owner and provides good practical instructions, clear photos or diagrams and takes care to explain all terms used. The advice given is practical and gives the reader good options rather than preaching.

Although, a single book such as this is not going to provide full indepth information on any particular injury this is an excellent overview of injuries and treatment and gives owners good information on how different diagnostic tests or treatments work. Certainly something to keep in your library or stable bookshelf to refer to.
