Book Description

0966101014 978-0966101010 June 1, 2001
Just as the original book Prolo Your Pain Away! affected the pain management field, Prolo Your Sports Injuries Away! has rattled the sports world. Learn the twenty myths of sports medicine including the myths of anti-inflammatory medications; why cortisone shots actually weaken tissue; how ice, rest, and immobilization may actually hurt the athlete; why the common practice of taping and bracing do not stabilize injured areas; and why the arthroscope is one of athletes’ worst nightmares!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Editorial Compilation of Physicians on Prolotherapy for Sports Injuries, October 23, 2011
By
This review is from: Prolo Your Sports Injuries Away! Curing Sports Injuries & Enhancing Athletic Performance with Prolotherapy (Hardcover)
The prior review's comment "Dr. Hauser is an unknown to the national sports medicine associations" is misleading on two fronts. Dr. Hauser is the editorial compiler of this book and principal contributor, but there are 13 physicians (most M.D., some D.O., some D.P.M) who are chapter contributors (plus 4 other contributors from related professional fields). The book is 901 pages long and is a very impressive book, although I think the copyright credits should make this more clear, a fault of the publisher therefore. Dr. Hauser is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Prolotherapy which has many more medical contributors. The comment is also misleading in that many members of the national sports medicine associations are doctors who practice Prolotherapy and are well aware of Dr. Hauser. Two good examples would be Mark Wheaton, M.D., who writes the Forward and is a contributor to the book, and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. Also Ronald W. Hanson Jr., M.D. of regenexx.com in Denver, who is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, where the chief surgeon at Regenexx (Dr. Christopher J. Centeno, M.D.) is a contributor to the Journal of Prolotherapy.

The book is well illustrated, extensively footnoted. If a person wants to see how Prolotherapy can help so many sports conditions, this is the book to get. I also recommend subscribing to the Journal of Prolotherapy and spend days pursuing items at the National Library of Medicine with abstracts containing the word "Prolotherapy" or "Platelet Rich Plasma Injection" or "Stem Cell Injection" or "PRP Injection". It would benefit physicians as well as prospective patients. There has to be near if not more than a thousand bibliographic citations in the book (for instance, Chapter 30 alone has a 285 long bibliography).

Last, in short defense, Prolotherapy is nothing to readily dismiss. It is one of the chief procedures of the American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine (aaomed.org), an organization with many Orthopedic physicians (they have a directory too). Prolotherapy is used by many famous athletes, including Tiger Woods and Bartolo Colon, a baseball pitcher. Last, former US Surgeon General, Dr. Edward Koop benefited by and supports the use of Prolotherapy.

Last, my own involvement. I suffered a complex torn meniscus in my left knee July 2011 and after extensive research received a Bone Marrow Stem Cell Prolotherapy treatment on October 18 performed by Dr. Hauser at his CaringMedical.com clinic in Illinois. It's too early to give a definitive final assessment but so far I am 100% pleased with the procedure and what it has done for my knee. This book predates this advance form of Prolotherapy I got but the procedure is done concurrent with standard Prolotherapy given and for understanding the benefit of standard Prolotherapy for a wide range of sport injuries, this is a great, single contributory effort by 14 physicians (the 14th one being Dr. Hauser, M.D. himself).

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless dribble, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Prolo Your Sports Injuries Away! Curing Sports Injuries & Enhancing Athletic Performance with Prolotherapy (Hardcover)
Prolo may have "rattled the sports world", but this book has not. This is a poorly written infomercial by someone with minimal understanding of sports medicine. Dr. Hauser is an unknown to the national sports medicine associations. Like any infomercial this book is full of hype and anecdote with no research and little truth. A waste of money at any price.
