5.0 out of 5 stars slick system, September 20, 2011

I was tired of constantly having to replace the ink cartridges on my workforce printer as they seemed to last only a few pages. I calculated the cost of this system against my cartridge usage and determined that if it worked it was a great deal. I bought the system and must say the ease of installation was a snap. It took me longer to watch the instruction video than to install the system and it works flawlessly. The Epson printer even recognizes the system for ink availability something that was spotty with aftermarket replacements. After running the maintenance program a couple of times the ink was flowing properly. I ran a test image and the process color image was as good as any that the printer has ever produced. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb. Not for the inept, but not too difficult, either., January 4, 2012

Well, I've gotten a few months out of it now - and some fairly heavy printing. I'd guess I have printed at least 125 8.5x11 glossy pages, maybe an average of 50% coverage (lots of contact sheets). I've also printed on card stock, and have gone through at least 800 pages of regular copy paper, mostly just as text with some images (reports and school materials). I think the system is fabulous. I did replace the printer lid with a plexiglass top that I made for it, pretty much immediately - to note there, no matter if you choose to leave the printer lid as-is, or replace it with your own creation (or simply go without) - make sure and pay attention to the lid switch on the top of the printer, activated by the hinged lid. The printer will work with this up, but finally figured out that some of the weird warnings the driver initially gave me were solely related to it thinking it had an open lid all the time. Putting something in there and taping it has worked fine. I had some concern that the constant movement (some movement is extremely rapid, too) of the tubes would potentially be an issue - also, if you don't take some care about positioning of the tubes from the replacement head to the reservoirs, the tubing can get trapped between the rapidly-moving print head and the underside of the top of the printer enclosure. This is fairly easily remedied with a little care - and despite having caused this sandwiching to occur many times, no problems arose. The system has been extremely reliable - I'd say I've used up about 3/4 of the total ink supply. The only minor irritation that is recurring is associated with the driver foolery - indeed, the ol' page-counting system epson has going doesn't work so smoothly with a continuous ink system... the real downside to this is that occasionally (as in, this happens to me every... perhaps 70 or 100 pages) the printer will stop printing mid-page, and the ink light on the printer will flash. This would be highly irritating if I was doing a lot of fancy stuff, but to date, this has only killed off one page of glossy. And I believe it's possible to avoid this with a little care (like actually paying attention to your fake ink levels and occasionally tricking the printer as usual). It's also possible the manufacturer has more info somewhere on how to better avoid this... but i don't really care, the irritation is truly minor. When the printer think's it's out of ink, you simply push a button on the replacement head-cartridge thing - which resets the printer for that cartridge, making it think that whatever color was out has been replaced. For people that aren't constantly printing on really expensive paper, this is extremely minor... if anything, it's sort of reassuring, since it signals when you'd have lost another 20 or 40 bucks on another tiny-volume cartridge. Color quality seems completely adequate - I am not doing fine art prints, but I have a pretty good eye for color, worked as a graphic artist for the last 15 years - if you're not doing "giclee" prints, or some other color or UV-critical type fancy-pants printing, I actually think you're probably going to see the greatest difference in color simply by messing with the different color settings available within the printer driver itself. I occasionally run into some streaking - it seems that ink builds up on the bottom of the print head enclosure, and once in a great while (perhaps every 40 prints) I'll see some slight smears when a job is started. I haven't had anything ruined by this, but that's mostly just luck.. . but I think this could be remedied by: not printing so much (I think my volume has been way above norm for Joe Consumer, since I purchased it, 2.5 months ago), and/or running the head-cleaning more frequently. Aaaand lastly, sometimes after the printer has decided that X color's run out, it'll print with those typical ugly horizontal lines. This can easily be remedied with more head-cleaning. I used to mess with the alignment feature in the driver maintenance, but I don't think it's really done much at all since this system was installed. Banding is only an issue when the printer's page-counter forces you to do the fake cartridge replacement in the middle of a long document... then you may get some banding... but hey, that kind of crap would likely happen to you with the old cartridge sitch. (and u can always kill/pause print job and do cleaning etc. then continue... )

So. After all that blathering - the end prognosis from my pretty intensive (but not terribly long-term) use of this system is that it totally rocks. I'm sure it has saved me a few to possibly several hundred dollars - and the peace of mind is awesome. As in, "should I waste ink on that?" = ink is no longer the expensive part. Plus, it's a great show-off piece.. . if there's some place to add customer photos for this I'll try and up mine so you can see an effective plexiglass solution (just used a jigsaw on a chunk of plex, flamed the edges, and stood it off the top of the printer, using some wire banding to suspend the tubes accordingly). FYI: it's possible the included tubing-suspension system could work well, I just didn't like it (it relies on foam tape).

Nice system. For the money: incredible.

I read the other reviews and gave this a try. When first installing, the cartridges were not recognized. However, I resyphoned the ink and tried again. Three of the cartridges were recognized, which gave me hope. I tried several times and could not get the cyan to work. So I took the unit out and re-seated it again. This time I could tell, that it seated proper. It works wonderful!!. The vendor was also very helpful in sending the order out express,(at an extra cost, as expected) even though the option was not available on Amazon. So, do not hestitate to call or email. They are very helpful.

Thanks
