Ink questions how often do these go through ink with average use? CLI-226 is sold in a 4 pack, but what about the fifth cartridge- are you guys buying the 4 pack and the additional CLI-225 black seperately?

I was at Best Buy this weekend and was casually looking for a printer. When I walked down the printer aisle I noticed a sign that said "Canon Rep in today". So I spoke to the gentleman, and he told me the fifth cartridge(or extra black)is used for photo's. My understanding is one black cartridge is for text and one is for photo's. My concern was ink usage, and Canon's ads for saving ink, etc. The rep told me that multi-ink printers are more economical because your replacing the color that runs out, not the whole "color cartridge" if say your yellow runs out(then your throwing away ink, right?)...made sense to me. I currently have an HP 2575, and I want to smash the thing in my driveway. My new printer comes in on 1/6/11, so I haven't tried it yet, but the reviews seem encouraging. I'm hoping the Canon ink situation works out at $13.99 a pop, doesn't seem as bad as $35 for a color HP cartridge + $25 for B&W.
This printer is a pig when it comes it ink. I barily print anything and I already had to replace the cartrages. For example I just put new blue and cyan cartrages in the printer. I print something one week then I printed something a week later no color just black text and now already both cartrages only have a half a tank. What wastes the ink is when you go to print something and the pig decides to start cleaning the heads which takes five minutes then before it decides to print. It will tell me low or out of ink before it even printed anything so you know it is wasting ink when it goes low before it even prints.
My next printer is going to be a laserjet. I am sick of muti-cartrage inkjet hogs. My last HP was the same ink hog.
