5.0 out of 5 stars The best singer... EVER
My first memory of Mylene Farmer is in the early 80's... I was maybe 8 years old, and one of Mylene's songs was number one on the radio: "Libertine". My friends and I would sing at the top of our lungs "Je, je, suis libertine... Je suis une catin"... and our moms would tell us not to sing it too loud, because the words "libertine" and "catin" mean "prostitute" in old...

3.0 out of 5 stars Innamoramento
This is only the second Mylene Farmer album I have heard. The first was Anamorphosée which was great. Innamoramento disappointed me. I agree with Christian Turk's review even though I am not a Farmer fan.

My first memory of Mylene Farmer is in the early 80's... I was maybe 8 years old, and one of Mylene's songs was number one on the radio: "Libertine". My friends and I would sing at the top of our lungs "Je, je, suis libertine... Je suis une catin"... and our moms would tell us not to sing it too loud, because the words "libertine" and "catin" mean "prostitute" in old French... so just imagine little girls singing about being that.

So who is this mysterious angel? Mylene started out with short red hair, almost boyish looking. Her videos would almost always take place in the 1800', and she would play a man many times. You will see blood in many of her videos...

But what makes Mylene Farmer unique? If I had to pick only one thing, I would say her lyrics. She writes all her songs. Her lyrics are deep, full of emotions, real, and erotic, all at the same time. She sings her songs in a whispering voice, and can get to high notes very easily.

The Mylene of this century has longer hair, still fire-red. She dresses with either lots of long transparent materials... or lots of short outfits with long boots... well, how sexier can this get?

Her songs not only are powerful, but along with her music, make her sound and look like an angel.

I am a true fan, and from all her albums since she started, there is maybe 2 or 3 songs that I don't care for.

Her albums get better each time, lyric and music wise...

If you are browsing this site searching for your first French album, don't look any further... Mylene Farmer is the one you were looking for.

(And if you are looking for a male singer: Jean-Jacques Goldman, without a doubt).

I hope this was somewhat useful to you out there...

5.0 out of 5 stars If could, I'd give it more stars...., August 5, 2004
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
This CD, has become one of my most cherished possessions, 'cos this french artist has grown in my soul & spirit, so greatly, that she has transformed in almost like a sort of "muse" of mine.

Seldom I do admit that I'm a fan of an artist, I like many singers a lot, but Mylene is my supreme "goddess". In spite that I understand very little of the french language, there's something in her music, melodies, in her phrasing, voice, etc...that bewitches me. When I listen over and over again, to most of her albums, especially this one, I "fall" like in a "sort of trance". In fact, I've been trying to transalate by myself some of her lyrics, with the aid of a dictionnary, which are very poetic, sophisticated and inspired.

When I first bought the album, I had my "immediate" favorite tracks, most notably the awesome, title song, "Innamoramento", "L'Amour Naissant", "Je Te Rends Mon Amour" (I give you my love?) and "Pas le temps de Vivre" (means something like "There's no time to live"), a wondrous, evocative song.

But then, with the many listenings, plus watching the DVD clips of some of this songs and the Mylenium Tour Concert DVD, which features most of its songs (thanks to Amazon.com France, where I bought these Zone 2, PAL, DVD's), ...this album definitely grew more and more in me...and I haven't get tired of listening to these songs, a thousand times.

Other notable songs (& more rhythmic), are "Dessine-Moi un Mouton", "Mefie-Toi", "L'Ame-Stram-Gram" and "Souviens Toi Du Jour"....BTW "Mylenium" was used as overture for the awesome "Mylenium Tour" 2000 Concert, at good advantage & with great effect, a tune that grows "in crescendo". The opening sequence of the concert is truly, truly remarkable, it should be available for the American Market (Zone 1 NTSC).

It may be not every person's "cup of tea", but if you like Sarah MacLachlan, Enya, or singers like those, give a try to this "ethereal" album of this great "Chanteuse" of French Pop. IMHO, her best studio album to date, followed closely by "Anamorphosée", a different concept album, with stronger guitars and "rockier" songs.

Listening to this cd inspires me, emotions me, makes me happy, hypnotizes me, "transports" me....but beware!, IMHO, to feel the "full effect" of this album, you must listen to it, concentrated, with the volume loud, or better, with your headphones on...it's a complete unique experience. You'll listen to her melodious high-pitched voice at its most glorious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mylene's BEST BY FAR, July 31, 2001
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
I am baffled that some reviewers think that this album is inferior to Mylene's previous work...HELLO!!! This is by far her best album to date. Not only is it a lengthy album, but each song is distinct and beautiful in its own right. For example, "Innamoramento" is a stunningly lovely slow song, while "L'Ame Stram Grame" is trance-y and rythmic. "Mylenium" reminds me of Adiemus--tribal, but ethereal. "Dessine-Moi Un Mouton" is amazing with its catchy electric guitar rifts and Mylene's cooing voice. "Je Te Rends Ton Amour" is a laid-back, slightly trip-hoppy groove...

Ahh...I just hope that Mylene keeps doing this kind of music. It is far more mature and moving than anything she's previously done. And may I say...this album is far better than ANYTHING Madonna (with whom Mylene is often compared) has ever done. Even English speaking music-lovers should purchase this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars After three years..., January 5, 2001

Alexander Rogozinski (Warsaw (Warszawa) Poland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
From the beginning I didn't love that album so much like "Anamorphosee" or "L'autre..." but then it started to reach me. Of course, that was the videos which helped the most in this - the Japanise-in-spirit "L'ame-stram-gram", mysterious "Je Te Rends Ton Amour" or original (like for Mylene, who likes to present herself as a "dark and unhappy" person in most of her works) "Optimistique-moi" made with the help of Czech circus cast. So the pictures took the melodies higher in my perception but then I started to like even these songs which was never released as a videos. Now I think that this is one of the best Mylene's works - better than her two firsts albums but less beautiful than "L'autre..." and less various than "Anamorphosee". Of course the quality of Mylene's art is unquestionable and still placing her on the top of French pop scene. I wonder what will be her next step...

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack for a wild and splendid synthesized dream, April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
This superb new disc brilliantly underscores why Mylène is a megastar in Europe. The sound on this album is a spectacular blend of lush, gorgeously haunting melodies and splendid vocal technique. Never derivative or formulaic, all thirteen new tracks are amazingly fresh and original and cover a wide spectrum of styles ranging from Jeff Dahlgren's rough-edged guitar riffs in «Dessine-moi un mouton» (recalling the rock-tinged «L'Instant X» and «XXL» of the "Anamorphosée" album) to hot, Eurodance club tracks and floating, exquisitely tender ballads. Mylène Farmer fans have been waiting a couple of years for some new material, and this release highlights the fact that the wait has indeed been worthwhile. By marrying Mylène's often cerebral French lyrics to Laurent Boutonnat's masterful compositional skills, this disc demonstrates that modern «pop» music can be superior art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unquestionably, Mylene's Masterpiece, June 10, 2001
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
For some time, the world has been waiting for Mylene Farmer to unleash the same elusive, enchanted being that inhabited her startling 1991 album, 'L'Autre.' Finally, she has unlocked the secret room in which this Mystical Maiden has been kept hidden and the result is Mylene's most beguiling, magical, and sonically irresistible offering to date. This is the album that completes the journey begun with 'L'Autre.' Every song shimmers with sincerity and a supernatural dynamic that can often take one's breath away. Opening with 'L'Amour Naissant,' Mylene sets the tone for her musical expedition with a fresh blend of layered harmonies, soul-stirring drums, and ambient touches. Of course, the passion of her voice remains the pillar of fire that keeps this song churning, burning, and building into a celebration of Tragedy and the haunting power of human love. The album's first single 'L'ame-stram-gram' showcases Mylene's trademark sexual mischievousness with the pressing, danceable cloak-of-beats that have characterized her best hits. The third track is the best on the CD, but all those that follow never lose one iota of steam in their ability to captivate. It's almost as if Mylene has finally reached some fabled mountaintop. and from that peak she is writing, arranging, and singing with a clarity that causes the music to simply cascade down upon the listener like some form of sexy, tropical rain. A very pure, very driven, very human piece of musical genius. Of course, chapeaux must go off to Laurent Bouttanant, her conspirator in this wonderwork. C'est magnifique...sans aucun doute!

4.0 out of 5 stars The memory of water, July 12, 2000
By
loteq (Regensburg/Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Innamoramento (Audio CD)
Despite what anyone says, Mylene's latest album wasn't much of a commercial success; the European audience, save France, meanwhile had shifted away from the dance-pop genre. The three CD-single releases "L'ame..", "Optimistique-moi", and "Souviens.." were very difficult to find in music stores and didn't have any impact on the German charts. That's a shame, since these three songs are brilliant and make a very good introduction to Mylene's art as any of her late-'80s hit singles. The whole album, however, is less compelling than it should have been. Some tracks clearly lack a solid compositional foundation and only have an airy, aimless feel to them. The rock guitars and drums which were a dominant feature on "Anamorphosee" are mostly used as filler in the background, lending a uniquely transparent, otherworldy quality to many tracks. And Mylene's voice is more over-the-clouds here than on any other of her albums, a feature that places "Innamoramento" closer to esoteric bands like Enya, Enigma, or Dead Can Dance than to Euro-dance. "Mylenium" with its nearly Gregorian chant even has a medieval flavor. The lyrics aren't much of a refinement of previous concerns, though. Since nobody else can come close to the graceful and sometimes lustful atmosphere of Mylene's music, this album satisfies, but I don't think it's her masterpiece.

Mylene releases an album every 2 or 3 years, and each and every one is a perfectly polished gem. Innamoramento and L'Amour Naissant have an incredible emotional and musical momentum. Mylene's voice is only getting better as years go by, music is great... 100% recommended.

Canadian relative gave this album to me in cassette form and liked it after first listen and loved it after 2-3-4 and 5th listen. All the songs are beautiful even if I don't understand french. Mylene's voice becomes enchanting and the orchestrations are great (a nice mix of instrumental and contemporary sounds).
