5.0 out of 5 stars Joelle is amazing and incredibly wise for someone so young., December 23, 2009

This review is from: The Inner Edge: The 10 Practices of Personal Leadership (Hardcover)
This may be my favorite book of 2009 - and on into 2010. WOW! Dr. Joelle Jay is a master coach who has worked with executives around the country. The insights and wisdom she has provides in this book, along with the tools available in the book and on the accompanying website are incredible. As Joelle says, "This book isn't about leading your organization or leading your team. It's about leading yourself." Get this book ordered right away. You'll want to immerse yourself in it as you allow her lessons to seep into your pores. I definitely give this a 5-star recommendation, no question.

I believe I've purchased at least 20 so far through Amazon to give to friends, associates, and even a family member!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful guidebook on achieving personal leadership, April 29, 2011
This review is from: The Inner Edge: The 10 Practices of Personal Leadership (Hardcover)
Great leaders are take-charge, can-do, action-oriented individuals who work hard to make a difference. However, in today's busy, nonstop work environment, many leaders, like everyone else, feel overwhelmed, frenzied and frustrated. All the hard work in the world will not alleviate such feelings. Leaders require something more. Executive leadership coach Joelle K. Jay teaches beleaguered executives to focus on their "personal leadership" strengths and capabilities as a way to integrate their personal and professional lives, and come out ahead in both areas. In her insightful book, Jay presents 10 practices leaders can pursue to achieve this vital integration. getAbstract recommends it as a steady, useful read for leaders who want to align their work and their personal lives.

This review is from: The Inner Edge: The 10 Practices of Personal Leadership (Hardcover)
After having read many popular business and motivational books over the span of ten years in leadership positions, I never could seem to take away anything more meaningful than a general sense of having been cheered on. Sure, I enjoy being encouraged, and of course there are many good ideas floating around out there, but I never seemed to be able to put it all together and make a lasting impact in my work or life.

The Inner Edge: The 10 Practices of Personal Leadership is different. Since I purchased the book well over a year ago, I have continued working through it, returning to it and investing time not in just the author's take on improving my leadership (even though Dr. Jay has included some great insights and real-world examples), but MY own brand of leadership. The reflections, visualizations and exercises in this book make this an experience tailored to my life -- right as I am reading it, and so will never grow out of date. There is a welcome emphasis on community and mentorship, and probably most valuable are the tools that help me integrate self-reflection and personal leadership into a regular discipline.

I should disclose that in the time since I first read the book, I have had the pleasure of meeting, and even working with Dr. Joelle K. Jay. Having done so has not changed my recommendation in the slightest, only reinforced my original opinion. If you are a professional that successfully leads any sort of team, and you are hoping to turn some of that skill toward working on your own life, you will not be disappointed. This book was just what I needed -- and still need, I re-read chapters, passages and occasionally the whole thing from time to time!

I am so excited to write a review for Dr. Jay's book, The Inner Edge. Not only am I in the process of building my own business, but also I am a mother to three young daughters. The Inner Edge is a valuable life tool. The accessible and applicable principles in this book motivate me to find and keep my purpose as I grow my business. But what most excites me most about IE is that the principles of leadership also can easily incorporated in to family leadership! The examples and exercises used in IE are powerful tools for modeling and implementing positive habits and personal development for my young daughters. Everyone should have this book.

Any one trying to develop themselves further should read this book but small business owners really need to dive it. As small business owners we are wearing many hats and it is tough to stay focused. Reading this book has given me more clarity and focus which makes it easier for me to prioritize my day to day affairs. It keeps me focused on what I love to do, which comes more easily and is more profitable for me. Reading this book has been a significant event for my business. I also had the pleasure of being in Joelle's book club this past year. I highly recommend it.

The Inner Edge is brilliant! What I love most is the hands-on aspect. I can pick up any chapter and DO something, right now, to drive my own personal leadership excellence. Across my personal and professional lives. It's not theory, it's practice - and you experience results immediately. Highly recommended.

The "Inner Edge" provides more than I anticipated. The material is good for reflection and reinforcing the actions I need to take for this new year. This is not a book to race through just one time. This book entices you to think about who you are and what you really want, not just react to situations placed in front of you. The message of Joelle Jay helps you to clarify your own needs, create detailed action steps, and then practice essential principles. Excellent examples are given that apply to many leaders who have a different leadership style or situation. What more could you ask for in this unique and well written book about personal leadership? This is definitely my book of choice for the year 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for any busy leader!, December 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Inner Edge: The 10 Practices of Personal Leadership (Hardcover)
The Inner Edge is right on target. In this fast-paced environment, everyone is trying to do more with less. Everyone is stretched, and you get to the point where you're just moving and reacting. They're not as thoughtful as they could be or serving their clients as well as they could be. The Inner Edge is written in a style that's very natural, conversational and easy to read, and it includes sidebars and resources that make it real. I recommend it!
