Annie was determined to never get married. After witnessing the unhappiness in her parents' life, she knew she never wanted to go through that! So when she received a letter requesting her to marry her deceased friend's grandson, she said no. When Russ proposed, she said no.
Russ came to Safe Harbor for one purpose...well, two actually. He was setting up shop, and was going to marry Annie. The fact that she turned him down didn't deter him. He was going to marry her no matter what.
Drew was a little boy who lost is parents. Being his god-mother, Annie was doing her best to raise Drew. But she was told he'd have to go into foster care until he was adopted. Annie was single, so wasn't eligible to adopt.
See where this is going? The whole marriage thing was bad enough. But when I see the pitifullness of these two, this story just seemed to drag forever. I never did understand Annie's hang up. I didn't understand Russ's reason for the reason he gave for marriage instead of the truth. But I could understand Russ's pain over losing his brother.
With all that said, I just didn't feel anything for these characters. I didn't care for either character and really didn't care if they ended up together or not...
