Editorial Reviews

Sundazed is totally stoked to announce the reissue of the first two albums by the Chocolate Watch Band, high on everyone's list as one of the most exciting garage bands ever. Hailing from San Jose, California, the Watch Band--featuring the pouting, Mick Jagger-influenced lead vocals of Dave Aguilar, the thrilling guitars of Sean Tolby and Mark Loomis, the solid bass of Bill Flores and the thumping drums of Gary Andrijasevich--made all the right scenes in San Jose, including appearances with South Bay chart-toppers the Syndicate of Sound and Count Five.

The Inner Mystique, the Watch Band's follow-up LP, puts you in the middle of a hippie ballroom with legendary producer Ed Cobb's instrumental "Voyage of the Trieste" and "In the Past," which use enough psychedelic guitar, electric sitar and exotic shakers and rattles to grow your hair at least two inches overnight. Ray Davies' "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" sounds like it was written just for the Watch Band, and Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is a jingle-jangle masterpiece. --This text refers to the Vinyl edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tres Mystique, September 27, 2000
This review is from: Inner Mystique (Audio CD)
Inner Mystique is perfect for the music lover who romanticizes about the rock n roll revolution of the Sixties. With each listen, Inner Mystique sucks you into the portal of what the Sixties were all about politically, socially, and musically. It's rebellious; it's innovative; it's electric Bob Dylan; it's Byrds-esque at times. Truly, Inner Mystique is a masterpiece, a classic, that all rock n roll lovers should have in their collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars the bands swan song, August 20, 2011

This review is from: Inner Mystique (Audio CD)
The band was gone, a early victim to the excesses that would wipe out tons of people later. although there were no deaths here but they floated apart evidently and the producer took leftover songs and mixed them with psych out songs that are pretty cool actually but not of the bands doing. THe band was a garage band and that's what they were truly about and not hippiedom really. That was just a backdrop. This is well worth owning imo , you get some cool garage rock songs and some psych rock songs and some bonus tracks too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chocolate Watchband - 'The Inner Mystique' (Sundazed), May 16, 2005
This review is from: Inner Mystique (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1968, looks to be the Watchband's second of three lp's they put out in their brief existence between 1965-68. The first three cuts on this CD reissue "Voyage Of The Trieste", "In The Past" and the title track "Inner Mystique" are really good psychedelic tunes and two of them were penned by famed record producer Ed Cobb. The rest of the CD are pretty much your standard (but good) garage rock. Liked "Let's Go,Let's Go,Let's Go", Bob Dylan's "Baby Blue", "She Weaves A Tender Trap" and the catchy "Sweet Young Thing". Recommended.
