Book Description

March 8, 1998
Take a wilderness trek within in the company of professional explorer Dave Cumes, who sees in the natural world, whether it be the side of a mountain or the back or your garden, one of the most powerful and accessible forms of self-healing. Combining the spirituality of African hunter-gatherers with yoga, Kabbalah and shamanism, he shows how the outer wilderness can help us access the inner wilderness of the psyche to reach peak experiences of insight and wisdom.

Amazon.com Review

Inner Passages Outer Journeys is as much a travel-adventure tale as a guidebook to connecting with your higher self through nature. Author David Cumes draws on his experiences with hunter-gatherer societies, such as the San of South Africa, and uses their daily stresses as a model for a successful wilderness healing trip. Inner Passages Outer Journeys is no get-in-touch-with-your-wild-man-inside workshop, though; instead it is an assessment of how technological culture has robbed us of self-transcendence. Cumes connects his model of wilderness healing with core beliefs that permeate spiritual philosophies such as kundalini yoga and Peruvian shamanism. Cumes's exploration will entertain you with adventures from Africa to Peru as it guides you toward your own passage to self discovery.
