Book Description

Going beyond a basic overview to explain how and why meditation works, this manual provides clear instruction on how to create a daily meditation practice, emphasizing how important it is—especially for Westerners who are not used to being still—to sit correctly. By using contemporary examples from his own practice and more than a decade of teaching various meditation techniques, the information is presented in a modern way that is easy to understand, fun, and attainable. Perfect for both novice and seasoned practitioners, these simple techniques help deepen the practice and explore the physical, psychological, and emotional benefits of daily meditation.

Editorial Reviews

"Demystifies the meditation process . . . the goal is to create a sense of peace in your life so that bumps in the road don’t become hurdles . . . a meditation book for the masses: simple, straightforward and very achievable."  —New Connexion Journal

"An all round guide to the whys and hows of the subject, including interesting background on psychology and physiology. There are exercises, case studies, resources . . . but it is the clear, down-to-earth explanations that make this such a useful book for anyone learning or struggling with any sort of meditation." —Bill Anderton, Pilgrim's (January 2011)

"This small and simple looking book is one of those bookshelf diamonds. . . . This unassuming little text is a comprehensive and manageable introduction to seated meditation . . . a wonderful antidote to all those meditation texts that make you feel like you must be doing it wrong, highly recommended." —Awen Clement,

5.0 out of 5 stars The clarity of a true mystic November 9, 2010
Darren brings his insight, truth and practicality to the topic and practice of meditation. He makes it, not a mysterious activity of a chosen few, but something that anyone can understand and value. He shows mediation's importance not just for the spirit, but for the mind and body, as well. I so appreciate it when mentors and mystics are understandable, and Darren is a perfect example. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Beginners to Meditation September 20, 2012

As a Yoga and Meditation teacher I always love to have books to suggest to those new to Yoga or meditation and this book is definitely one I do suggest. The author starts from the very beginning of the meditation to sit, what times of to create a daily my opinion the books biggest strength is that the author remembers what is was like to begin meditation and answers the questions a novice doesn't even know they need to ask. The language of the book is also a strength, the author is straight forward in describing meditation and its benefits. I highly recommend this book for anyone new to meditation or to any Yoga/meditation teachers looking for a resource to suggest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Always the why in Medidation July 21, 2012
By Hector
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Darrin takes the reader beyond the obvious how to meditation to all the aspects that surround the conversation. Its a book that I go to time and time again to get a reset on a meditation practice of high intrinsic value. He is an author that easily take the vague concepts that we come to hear in Eastern Studies and make them part of our everyday language and practice.

2.0 out of 5 stars We Sit and Meditation as One April 10, 2013

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
great review of the mechanics of seated meditation, even better survey of how and why meditation works, for example, the psiychology and physiology of meditation and a great survey of the mind vs the brain, together with an explanation of the unified field in which all that is rests. Very helpful in today's emphasis on the uinity of mankind.
