5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Reading, Word for Word, Paragraph by Paragraph,, March 28, 2005

This review is from: Inner War and Peace: Timeless Solutions to Conflict from the Bhagavad Gita (Paperback)
Let's face it, reading the Gita is rather tedious and boring...similar to reading the Bible. The Gita is rather complex in its psychology and it is very easy to lose focus while reading it. What Osho does is bring relevant questions to life. There is no doubt in my mind that this book is worth it's weight in gold. I would like to buy several copies and give them to friends, but not many people are into Gita.

From back cover...A person who himself is eager for war doesn't care whether the opponnent is eager to fight or not. A person who is eager for war is blind. He never looks at the enemy. He only projects the enemy. He doesn't want to look at the enemy-in fact, whomsoever he meets is an enemy for him. He doesn't need to see the enemy; he creates, he projects the enemy. When a battle is raging within, enemies appear on the outside.

Osho's illuminating commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most famous of Hindu scripture, explains how the patterns and conditionings of our mind create pain and misery, dilemma, conflict and war.

Arjuna, the tortured and reluctant hero, speaks with his enlightened mentor, Krishna, on the eve of the Mahabharata war. Throwing brilliant light on Krishna's responses, Osho exposes the roots of our contemporary personal and global problems and proposes his timeless solution.

This book surprised me. I already have 6 books by Osho but this one is easily the best one I have. I didn't think it would turn out this way, but I would recommend this book to anyone despite the title; because anyone smart enough to read this can benefit from it. Honestly weather you're the "common" man or the "unique" man it makes no difference. Both can benefit from it.

I have tried to get my father, my sister, and my brother to read it, but they all ignore it because of the title. I assume most people who read the title think it's for someone with anger problems. Someone who is emotionally disturbed or seeking answers. If you think that chances are you'd rather drown yourself away in T.V or something fun to read. You probably won't dig very deep if you just judge it by the cover. But dig deep & you will be surprised & even grateful that you read this.

Osho breaks down the Gita step by step and even if you don't know what the Gita is, who wrote it, or what purpose it served (like I did.) you will know all by the end of it. I never knew who Krishna is, or what the Gita was, so you really need no prior knowledge of either to enjoy or understand this. Osho says the Gita was the first psychological book ever written, and that Krishna was the first ever psychologist. After reading the story you'll understand why.

I'm not sure if Krishna just studied himself his whole life, or studied every one, but he was very adapt at finding the root cause of a problem & fixing it. In the story you will see a glimpse of that when he handles Arjunas situation with precision. His methods are somewhat unorthodox (I doubt anyone could recreate them) but he gets away with it. He knows what he is doing somehow, and everyone else is just left guessing.

To sum up the story Arjuna is faced with a problem. He must face his own family & friends in a War and asks Krishna his master (teacher) to give him advice. He is asking for advice all the meanwhile telling Krishna what he will do. So he is not really paying attention. Arjuna represents the common man, and faces problems we all face. [More-so teenagers than adults.] He has an important decision to make, a split decision, and time is running out.

Uncover the mystery, find the solution, and know that we're ALL going through the same struggle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Psychological Treatise, August 5, 2009

As usual, Osho trumps everyone who has EVER interpreted the Gita, from Ghandi to Tilak. Osho's captivating insights into the subtle twisted workings of the human consciousness as evidenced in the great warrior Arjuna, make it undeniably clear that the heated battle originates--within. And then moves without. Osho's Arjuna is you and me.
