Getting Along with "Getting Along with Others",
By Benjamin Kennedy (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Inner Work of Work: Getting Along With Others (Paperback)
I am a busy man who, at times, can have difficulty getting along with others. It was the prospect of solving this problem in 57 pages that led me to "Getting Along with Others". Not far into the book, I realized that Michael Baroff was attempting to force me to coach myself through improving my professional relationships by reflecting upon my own experiences rather than using a mindless format to tell me what to do. I suspected that I would not solve all my problems in two hours as I had hoped. As I went farther into the book, I found myself neglecting my bad attitude and actually dwelling on the way my behavior affects those around me. The author had succeeded in putting me on the road to getting along with others by telling me little more than "think about it". After finishing the book, I came away with less than I expected. While my expectations may have been a little ridiculous, I would have liked to have seen more of the author's thoughts and ideas. That said, I trust that this book will continue to be an excellent tool to have around constantly forcing me to reassess the methods with which I interact with those around me. |
