I travel extensively for work and spend more than my fair share of time in Airports between flights.
When started looking around I initially had one goal for a travel kit: one cable and two adapters (1 wall chargers & 1 Car Charger) for all my devices not including my laptop.
Below is a list of items I tested using both adapters in the travel kit. All the items charged without an issue.
-iPad 2
-LiveScribe Pen
-Blackberry Torch (Work)
-Motorola H16 Bluetooth Headset
-iPhone 4S (Personal)
-Kindle Gen2
The Innergie mMini Combo kit has been a very nice solution for the above goal but, I did revise my goal after spending 5 hours in the Charlotte, NC airport sitting in one spot trying to charge my iPad and Blackberry one at a time.
New Goal: Two cables and the aforementioned two adapters.
The fact that I can sit at the airport now and charge two devices (iPad and Phone) with one wall outlet is awesome considering how few power outlets there are in most airports and everyone is fighting for them.
Things you need to know before you buy any charging device
1. Voltage (V). You need the right voltage. This is very important. Yes, 5.1V is ok if the optimal voltage is 5.0.
2. Amperage (A)(current). You need to be above the minimum current required by your device. If your device needs 0.5 Amp, you can buy any charger equal or above 0.5 Amp.
Note: Devices will only pull the amount of current they were designed to pull. Higher Amps don't force current into a device any faster. If the device is designed for 1A it will pull 1A if it's available.
3. A Watt is the sum of the Volts and Amps of a device. For example, the iPhone uses a 5Watt charging brick (5V * 1A = 5Watts).
If you look on the charger that came with your device it will give you at a minimum the Voltage and Amps. Use the above calculations for Watts if you need them.
Standard Charges for various devices
-iPhone - 1Amp at 5V (5W)
-iPad 2 - 2.1Amp at 5V(10W Charger)
-BlackBerry Torch - .75Amp at 5V (3.75W)
-Samsung Galaxy S2 - .7Amp at 5V (3.5W)
The Innergie travel kit will handle all these devices easily.
Innergie Specs
-AC Wall Charger - 15Watts - Each USB port is 3.0A at 5V.
-Car Charger - 10Watts - Each USB port is 2.1A at 5V.
Pro's:
-USB 3.0 cables that sync and charge.
-Mini USB and Apple 30 Pin connector is one cable. I read in a different review that the person had an issues disconnecting the 30 pin connector from the mini USB. I have not had that issue on either of the two 2-in-1 cables I own.
-AC Wall Adapter is 15W and will charge 2 iPads at one time if you need it. I charged an iPad and Black Berry Torch at the same time with no issues.
-Car Charger easily charged my iPad and iPhone without issues.
-Multiple built-in protections: Over current, over voltage, over temperature, over power, and short circuit protections. Basically they have covered all the bases to keep from blowing up that device you've become very attached too.
Con's:
-None at this time.
**Note: I did read in one of the other reviews that the review tried charging an Android device with the kit and it was very slow.
I am going to test the kit with an Android device and will add to the review at a later date.
******UPDATE******
-I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and testing it out. My Android device does seem to charge much slower than an iPad and iPhone. Not sure why but it seems slower.
-Durability: The cable that came with the kit also has had some issues. I have two of the cables and one is still in good shape but the other one has come apart at both ends and you can see the internal wires. I think it's just an issue with that cable and not a regular occurrence.
I still really like the product. just being able to charge two devices with the same adapter and being able to use one cable with both micro USB and the Apple 30 pin sockets is a big plus. I did however bump the rating down to four stars due to the cable coming apart.
