Purchased an mCube Pro about 2 weeks ago. It does not work.

Took the charger on my first trip and it trips out on overcurrent every time I use it. I have an HP 2540P laptop that uses typically about 14.5 Watts per HP's specification and is stated to always use less than 65 watts.

The laptop's standard charger that I use daily for the last two years is a 65 watt model.

Contacted customer service at Innergie, I received a response back from them after my second request a week after the first. Calvin Chen responded from Delta Corporation stating that their records show the HP 2540P requires a 90 watt charger (incorrect) and that the mCube only provdies 65 watts. (So I guess the 70 watts advertised is false as well.)

He then stated they would not do anything, so I will be disputing the credit card charge and returning to Amazon.

    Buyer beware,

    Brian

I really like this thing. It works with standard 120V AC wall outlets, automobile-style DC power outlets, and "Empower" airplane DC outlets. When using a DC power source, the AC/DC transformer (the larger piece) detaches, making the unit much smaller and lighter. It makes flights overseas a lot easier to tolerate.

It comes with a very handy pouch which, combined with its small size, makes it easy to bring along. It was also the least expensive of the airplane-compatible power supplies, which is nice, and it doesn't feel cheaply made.

I'd suggest pairing it with a 220V-to-110V stepdown transformer for overseas travel.

    Negatives:
It can be a little finicky when you're operating off DC power sources. It seems to work consistently if I plug in the unit first, let the LED turn on, wait a minute, then plug in my laptop. This isn't a serious problem.

No attachment for Mac laptops. I expect Apple has a trademark on their power supplies and they won't let other companies make compatible devices, so I can't blame Innergie for this, but it is kind of a negative.

And finally... "mCube" is kind of a dumb name for a thing that isn't cube-shaped.

Admittedly, I bought this on a whim - meh.com had it for $10. I figured it'd make a good spare charger for my low power Acer C710 Chromebook, and it was cheaper than buying an inverter for the car.

It actually charges the Chromebook a bit faster than the included power supply (which is only 41 watts - my Chromebook, while plugged in, doesn't charge at all with the included adapter if I'm streaming Netflix or doing anything CPU intensive).

I wouldn't suggest using this with anything remotely beefy though - it's rated at 70 watts continuous, while a lot of laptops require 90 watt power supplies.

One big upside is unlike a lot of USB chargers, my Android phone recognizes it as an A/C charger (which allows it to pull its full rated output instead of capping it at 500mA)

We'll see how long it lasts. They claim a 3 year warranty, and I'm sure mine sat in a box for a long time (since it made it to meh.com) - it's not shown as a current product on Innergie's website.

The included carrying pouches are a nice touch. One small one for all the tips (which I've stored with the manual - the manual lists what tip works with what), one big one for the cords and transformers. I did have to try two different tips for my laptop - both physically fit, but it would only work with one. I assume the point of listing two that fit the same is one may have had the polarity switched (the only visible difference between them is one is white tipped, the other is orange tipped).

I have my phone and Chromebook both plugged into it now (Chromebook is on and fully charged, phone is charging from nearly dead). The phone is showing a mere 1.5 hours to full charge at the moment, so it's definitely putting out something close to the 1 amp USB rating.

The mCube Pro only works if the computer is off or on standby when plugged to the computer. If the laptop is on and then you plug the adapter to the laptop, the adapter will provide no power and no charge, the laptop will start making a beeping noise, and the charge light start blinking. So everytime you need to use this adapter, you must first turn your laptop off or put it on standby.

In other words, this adapter is useless. And unless I bought two failed adapters, the whole line of mCube Pros is useless, as I've tested this with two mCubes, with my Thinkpad T420s, which uses a 65W charger and is listed as compatible with this adapter on the manufacturer's website.

We'll see how long it lasts after a few months of running at that temp, might get a thermal pad to put under it.
