Kerrang Live Review

"A supercharged blend of propulsive dance rhythms, loud guitars and the dirty, futuristic squelch of distorted synch create soaring, uplifting anthems."

Product Description

After nearly a year of solid touring back and forth across North America, the UK and Europe - Island Records group Innerpartysystem has worked its way right up to the September 30th arrival of their self-titled debut album INNERPARTYSYSTEM, featuring the gripping debut single and video "Don't Stop.IPS promos (slated up to 50 per week) for the one-month program begin next week (September 15th) on the FUSE cable channel and microsite. FUSE, an early supporter of IPS, has been running the "Don't Stop" video online since June and on tv since July, and ran exclusive interviews with the band from Lollapalooza in August. "Don't Stop" is also getting tremendous support from mtvU, which added the video in rotation since June. The single continues to gather Alternative radio airplay at major tastemaker stations such as 89x Detroit, Q101 Chicago, The Point (KPNT) St. Louis, X 96 Salt Lake City, Radio 104.5 (WRFF) Philly, WLUM Milwaukee and more. "Don't Stop" was featured last weekend on KROQ's Jed The Fish "Out Of Order" program, syndicated to more than 60 Modern Rock and Active Rocks stations.

INNERPARTYSYSTEM brought together an A-level quorum of producers and mixers including Joel Hamilton (Book of Knots, Sparklehorse, Blue Tip), Mark Needham (the Killers, Pete Yorn), Spike Stent (Björk, Arcade Fire), Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Jesus & Mary Chain, the Killers), and Stuart Price (Madonna), all of whom brought new ideas on sound and instrumentation to the group.

On October 4th, IPS returns for eight club dates in the UK - where Kerrang magazine (in its review of "Don't Stop") noted, "If you're looking for some beefy, groove-laden electro-rock, then you're gonna cream your pants at this stompy dancefloor destroyer's titanic chorus." The band's UK success - on Capitol Radio, Radio 1 and XFM, across-the-board in every publication from Kerrang to Music Week to NME, and on television (NME TV, "Flaunt," MTV2, "Kerrang," and so on) - has given them a secure touring base in Britain. Meanwhile, IPS returns home for a major 22-city U.S. tour (with 3OH!3 and Chaingang Of 1974) starting in Fresno on October 19th. The six-week schedule encompasses their appearance with Nine Inch Nails at the Voodoo Music Experience festival in New Orleans on October 25th.

Innerpartysystem was introduced to the world last fall 2007 with The Download EP, a six-song batch of self-recorded demos - including "Don't Stop" - that pointed the way to their debut album. "Don't Stop" was licensed to EA's globally popular FIFA Street 3 freestyle street football (soccer) video game (released November 2007); and is heard on the soundtrack of EA's Madden NFL '09 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition (released August 2008), one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. Another track "Heart of Fire," was played during the MTV VMAs in September 2007; and was licensed to EA's Burnout Paradise video game (released January 2008).

Innerpartysystem - lead singer Patrick Nissley, Jesse Cronan (keyboards, programming), Kris Barman (guitar, keyboards), and Jared Piccone (drums) - took their name from the hierarchic controlling class in George Orwell's 1984.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different twist to rock, September 30, 2008
After hearing the first single "Don't stop", I immediately felt drawn to this band. "Don't Stop" is one of those songs that you love the first time you hear it. For me, that was absolutely the case. Fortunately for me, a single hit was not the beginning AND the end for this band.

Not too long after hearing about these guys and then hearing a single hit from them, I had the opporunity to see them live. Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties during the show, but that didn't stop them from dropping an amazing performance! But putting their first single and live show aside, how's their album?

To be honest, I was expecting something a bit heavier. However, after giving it a couple tries, I'm glad I got to know the band. On this debut of theirs, there is plenty of hit material that makes this a noteworthy album. After a couple listens, such songs as "structure", "Everyone is the Same", "obsession", "New Poetry" and "Heart of fire" are immediate hits. Sure, they are more mellow than "Don't Stop", but the talent and uniqueness is definately there!

Certainly, Innerpartysystem have invented something new for the rock world. Hard and mellow, they shine in both areas... while throwing in bits of... might I say... techno? This band may not appeal to everyone for this reason, but the fact that these guys are something different and unique is reason enough to give them a try!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad first release, but not as good as some of the reviews, October 14, 2008
By M. J. Belinski "Matt Belinski" (Lynch Station, VA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was expecting something a little heavier with this album (as one of the other reviewers also stated) and was a little disapointed with some of the cheesy sounding tracks on this album. Don't get me wrong, the solid tracks are about as solid as a veteran acts would be, but some of it just seemed like filler to me. "New Poetry" and "This Town, Your Grave" start out promising, but just end up going nowhere. "This Empty Love" is just that.....empty. Stand outs include "Die Tonight, Live Forever", "Don't Stop", "Last Night in Brooklyn", "Heart of Fire" (which is the only other song that has the same sort of sound that Don't Stop and Die Tonight, Live Forever have) and the only down tempo track I like - "What We Will Never Know". The first few tracks remind me a lot of Shiny Toy Guns and I'm suprised no one else has made this comparison yet. Again, a pretty good debut album, but not nearly as good as what I was expecting. Four stars simply because the good songs are sooo good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant hard rocking electronic anthems!, October 2, 2008

I saw Innerpartysystem a couple months ago based on a friends recommendation, and I have been anticipating the release of this album ever since. This album is just solid from start to finish and will make you want to get up and dance, hit the gym, or just have a wild good time! Highlights for me are- Die Tonight Live Forever, Don't Stop, Obsession, and Heart of Fire. One of my favorites of 2008.
